Took My Gamo S1K .20 Outa Da Closet Today and.....
« on: February 08, 2008, 05:16:47 PM »

found that it is still shooting 1" groups at 50 yards....:) Yes you heard right..:) 50 yards. I have been taking a couple hours a day lately and going one by one through each of my air rifles. Today was the S1K's .20 L/W's day to spread her wings..:) I have been shooting my CZ 634, HW 50s and my Hammerli Titan .177's and getting some amazing results. The CZ, HW and the Titan love the CP's and the S1K shoots Beeman FTS pellets. There is quite a difference between the Titan, and S1K compared to the HW 50s and CZ.. The difference being the firing cycle. The S1K and Titan having had extensive tuning, including the trigger on the Titan and the S1K with the GRT-III trigger. These are air rifles in the rough as CDT would say. But with the TLC that they were given have made them comparable to the Euroairrifles. It felt good shooting both the S1K today and the Titan. They are a bit more of a challenge to shoot but the reward is fantastic..:)

I can say that mymoded and tuned S1K .20 has excellentaccuracy out to 50 yards. Groups are ragged as well as damaging.. I had set up two new target stands out at 50 yards. They consisted of tablespoons hanging from heavy gauge wire. After shooting the HW 50s I found that was two easy of a target at that range. So today I set up another with pieces of 1X1/2" aluminum cutoffs. They were only 1/2" round by 1" long pieces. Still with the S1K.20 it was to easy hitting them. I may have missed twice out of maybe 50 shots. If I have time tomorrow I am going to get some small 3/8" round washers and hang from the lower bar by thin wire.

I hope to have some pictures of what I am working on soon. Right now I am just experimenting with different materials to see how they hold up under fire. Hope by this spring I will have a complete shooting arcade setup in my back yard..:)

I'm jealous in more ways than one; Don't have that many airguns as you, Don't have that kind of distance to shoot at and on the rare occasion that I shoot at a gun range....I'm all over a the place on a 4" bullseye.  :o(    Btw, hopefully I can get my Titan back from the shop next week.....

Gene, it sounds like you need to set up a FT range in you  back yard. Get creative, put bunny targets in the bush, squirrel and bird targets up in trees. See if you can knock the targets down at different ranges.

Gene, it sounds like your having alot of fun. :) Spent 12gr co2 cart make nice spinners and hanging targets, that can take a beating. Golfballs work for hanging targets, but do not work for spinners, they'll send your pellets back to bite you.

Only problem Peak is that I do 99% of all my shooting from a bench..:) But the challenge and satisfaction is still there... Yes I plan on putting up many more targets out there by spring. When I build my new back deck I will build in a shooting area so I can have access to most of the open land in back of my place. And Mike the the golf balls sound like a good idea. They are kinda big targets but I guess I could put them out past 50 yards and maybe hang a couple from the trees as Peak suggested.

Splash, the golfball observation is good to know.  Used to hit them at distance with a favorite .22 I had, years ago.

Now the rest of the story:

A WM store manager brought a Coleman heater/cooler (thermocouple type) that was dead for me to repair.  Not repairable.

I asked if something that small would hold more than a can or two, and he said he didn't use it to warm/cool drinks or food...he used it to WARM HIS GOLFBALLS!

Yes! Plugged it in to his car on the way to the course, and plugged it in to his golf cart later!

He said that winter is tough on distance shots, as the balls are too cold to compress properly for drives, unless he warmed them!

Funny!

Just kidding. I actually shot my S1K for the first timelast week  since I got the Ultra in Sept. It sure was a lot of fun and I found I was more comfortable shooting it than I am the Ultra PCP., but I've got probably 5-7 times the number of pellets throughthe Gamo than the BSA. Maybe that makes the dif. Just wish I could shoot as well as you, Gene
