the viper exress
« on: February 10, 2008, 08:26:07 PM »
the gun is a gimmick! bought first came out for 249.99 from the sports authority, had for about two years now and don't even want to look at anymore. i feel like going to gamo office building and throwing it through the window.

first month of owning it ran me up over a hundred bucks on the shot shells. at that time it was 9.99 a pack, thats what? 250cts of might hit sumthin or nuthin bullets. couldnt hit nothin with pellets unless the rats were jumpin to throw themselves in front of the pellets. shot shells are fun to shoot but cant shoot far enough to not have them birds see me coming already. sometimes, in the barn the shots would ricochet back and feel like welding sparks. i spent most of the time shootn at yelow jacket nests uder the house eves and got real good at running obstacle courses. seem to me  like thats what the gun is only good for. if i could go back in time, i would save all the money and add $100 to the pot, i would be polishing a nice extreme instead.

just venting my heat for be being sold this peice of shot.......................gun.

Hello Lee,

I'm sorry that you didn't wait for the reviews of the Viper Express, before you made your decision to get one. If at all possible, return it ! like Ed said, tell them it does not perform as advertised, and is worthless !

In the future, always wait for the reviews of the shooters before buying anything, I know I do !

Let us know how you make out.

thats right, when i bought it there were not yet any reviews that i could find on this. i just got bought with the super hype advertisement i'm not so innocent on the fact that as soon as i got it, i pinched off the bead sight and put truglow sights on and modified the trigger. i thought about returning or excahnging it like both of you suggested but didnt think that was gonna fly with gamo since i've tinkered with it. i'm just stuck with it. unless somebody out has an extra barrel assembly laying around and wants to sale it to me. a nice plastic fluted shadowsport bullbarrel of sort, at least somethin with rifling.

Has anyone attempted to load their own shot?  I got this gun sorta on impulse.  Already taken one bird, from like a few feet.  Dropped like a rock, but looks like past about 10 yards the shot disperses so much that less than 1 pellet would hit center mass.

I think a custom muzzle brake with internal threads at the end to accept various different choke tubes would do the Viper Express juuuust fine!
Gene??? You up to the task? hehe  :D

That sounds interesting, but I doubt it would make much of a difference.  I was thinking of shoving BB's in the tubes, and removing the #9 shot.  Or stuffing a felt cleaning pellet in the end and stacking bb's on top.

loading your own shot...

I think might be a lot of fun. I've got .177 round balls coming so I can experiment with loading my own shot. A lite pellet up front(like RWS hobby), felt pellet in rear, and rounds in between should be interesting. I've got a Shadow Express .22 that I picked up at WallyMart the other day....I just wanted it for the novelty of it. It looks cool and the wife likes it.

I bought a Viper Express@ Sports Authority for  $99.00. The box was torn up, and manual was gone.Thats why it was so cheap. I took it to work and we shot a 1 gallon jug of water at approx. 12 yards. POP. No big diplay of action, but when we walked over to look, the bottle was a sprinkler. I got it for a novelty. I think it looks beautiful. But its not a shotgun. Its just fun to shoot. I found ammo @ Sportsmans Warehouse for $2.00 cheaper than everyone else.

i still haven't done nothing with it since i posted this topic. my father has it for the mean while. he uses it with rws cleaning wads to shoot cats when they come to bury crap in his garden. says they don't break skin, just stings them from ten or so feet. well the old man can keep it.

LoL cleaning wads would be kinda funny.  Yeah sportsmans has the shotshells for less than internet prices, but still more xpensive than loading my own.  I thought that maybe dipping the end in wax would give the shells more oomph, both with handloads and the factory load.

read some where that #8 shot patterns better on reloaded shells, would it be possible to set some shot in the shells with something like plaster of Paris (gypsum) or even some of those light weight no shrink fillers for walls, with the cleaning felt or cut down hand roll cigarette filters, usually available in 6mm and much cheaper than cleaning felts

or at the risk of jamming the barrel, load 3 of the light weight pellets at once might be worth a try

pity about all the bad reviews, as i could probably get one with a shotgun licence, much less hassle and cheaper than a rifle licence
