GR CFX
« on: February 13, 2008, 02:30:47 AM »
Well, PA called Monday to tell me they are ready to ship me another GR CFX to replace the one I sent back because it was shooting so slow (approx. 100fps slower than my steel spring CFX). As soon as it comes in I will submit another chrony test.

Glad they're standing behind their sales, Bill.

Let us know how the new one turns out.

Well, they sent me a different one and this one is only 30 to 40 fps slower than the steel sprung CFX for the pellets tested on the original rifle. This is acceptible to me because I like the firing characteristics of the gas ram. The rifle ddoesn't seem to be hold sensitive and it puts most pellets through 1 ragged hole at 7m. I think I will go ahead and put my GTR trigger in and call it a keeper. Fatest pellet RWS SHP-645 fps.

This is for a .22 CFX right?
Playing with:

Baikal .22 MP-512M
Crosman 2240/ 2250 / 1377c / 1077 / 781
2 X .22 B3 / .22 QB362 / Daisy 22sg / No 100, Model 38
Beeman P17 / Beretta PX4 Storm .177 (and 9mm)
Ruger Airhawk .177 / XS-B3-1 (ak-47) .177

By those chrony numbers I too would assume it's a .22 caliber.  Even though you do show results for a CPL at 580fps I still assume you mean CP without the Light designation.  Keep us informed on group sizing after the GRT is installed.  I'm sure the grouping will only get better and the speed may even increase after she breaks in.

I thought that the gas ram was supposed to be slower than a regular springer, but the trade off is easier cocking and reduced/no recoil. I am missing something?

Cocking is harder, but smoother than the steel spring. It's still shooting a tad slower than my steel CFX, but the firing cycle is much better.

I ordered a Theoben GR last week for my .22 CFX.  I just chronied it in the factory metal spring configuration and these were the results;

Predators-553
H&N Silver points-530
Premiers-540
RWS SP-605
RWS SHP-613

I think that I have a bad breech seal and maybe a "factory cut" main seal because of the low numbers (500 shots so far) so I will replace them after the conversion, lube correctly, and retest.  I will chrony it before the tune though.

CDT trigger installed and once again I am amazed at the difference between it and stock!!

More to come whenever the ram gets here...

What's the latest one your gas ram CFX?  I expect PA to ship me one tomorrow or the next day and it should be here by the mid of next week.

If you got your gas ram via Airgun Werks its likely that the ram will only be a 12 ft/lb UK spec ram.  I got mine and put it into my .177 CFX and it does 11.5 ft/lb with JSB heavies and I also replaced the piston seal with a maccarri one.
I'd be interested to hear if your ram performs > 12 ft/lb as that is what I wanted to achieve in the first place.

That being said, my CFX gas ram is an easy cocking and smooth shooter.
