I'm Coming To The Darkside ( OH YES I AM! )
« on: February 13, 2008, 03:17:37 AM »
Ok I am getting ready to start my Talon SS fund and it will be only used to kill rats I am in Baltimore, Md. so there is ample amounts of rats to shoot at. The reason I chose the Talon SS is

1. I don't have to cock it between shots like my Big Cat
2. Its accurate as hell
3. Its not as big an my Gamo Big Cat
4. Its quieter than my Big Cat
5. Look at it, she looks like rat killin Mayhiem........ LOL

Ok so these are my questions

1. Should I get the CO2 version they claim "The benefits of shooting a Talon SS on CO2: Over 1,000 shots per CO2 tank at 700fps" and I know that Paint Balling is done right up the street from me. so I could fill up there
2. can the Standard Tank be filled with an air compressor rather than a scuba tank I don't even think they sell scuba tanks in Baltimore let alone fill them
3. how many shots do you get with the standard tank before filling up

Ok guy's help me out

co2 is pretty efficient, and 20oz goes a long way

The micro tank is another alternativeas it onlysips air. For a rat hunt, I would suppose that a tremendous amount of power is not necessary, so a low power Talon with a short barrel set up at the lowest power possible would likely alsobe shooting many shots on a fill.

Just found a dive store not to far from me (couple of miles actually) but i think i might get that CO2 adapter just for an optional tank

The Talon SS is a cool rifle. If you can swing it , I'd get the CO2 adapter too. On Co2 you'll get around 675fps with an 8g pellet ; which should be perfect for killing rats . I would use 9oz bottles , because of the diameter of the larger bottles creates a need for even taller rings . You'll need the bottle adapter which should come with the scuba tank set you've got coming to fill with any type of air. the adapter will fit a pump , and you would have to rig up something to fit a compressor line. BTW what type of compressor are you talking about? a regular air compressor will not work , it won't go high enough to do you any good. The Talon is a great backyard gun , it always drew too much attention in public places for me , it's a little too tactical looking .kirby

You'll get exactly just a little less than one full fill with a 3000psi scuba tank.  The gun and the tank will equalize. so both will be a little less than 3000.  To get full 3000psi fills you need a tank that holds a higher psi, like the 4500psi tanks Joe on the Yellow sells.  Then you refill the tank when the tank is below whatever you would call a full fill pressure for the gun.  I use a hand pump, I am fat and need the workout anyways, never need to go to the scuba store for a fill:)

Here's a calculator to figure tank fills off a scuba tank . With an 80cf tank @3000psi fill ; if you fill your Talon tank to 2500psi (which is where I used ti fill mine at when I owned one , because that was the beginning of the sweet spot) Then I would shoot down to 1000psi if my memory is correct before refilling. This would give you 8 full fills. A Talon on HPA is not very air efficient as compared to other PCP's . And I would look for a used 100cf 3400psi tank .that would give you 15 full fills. I checked scuba.com and $199 wouldn't be a bad price , they are going for $179 +shipping and shipping is high . You should be able to get a 88cf for that price though. With a 88cf and if they will overfill ( my shop will) to 3100psi your fills go to 10 . Talons operate best at the lower settings. I think mine on power wheel setting #3 was shooting around 900fps and I think I would get about 50 shots before I had to refill. kirby

Just make sure it has a current Hydro test . they last 5 years IIRC . and the scuba shop will most likely do a visual before they fill it . Visuals are required annually and are only $5-$10 . Hydros costs vary also. IIRC steel and aluminum tanks last a long time and as long as they pass the hydro-testing they're good to go. I don't think I'd want one that didn't pass anyways if you know what I mean. good luck . kirby

Ok I just got a used Tank 80cf 3000psi got it home and I filled my Talon SS Tank to 2600psifor its first fill. Question : Should I be able to get more fills out of my scuba tank now that I have filled my Talon SS Tank?

Thanks I don't really get how this works yet.

If I'm understanding the question correctly; yes you should be able to get 7 more 2500 fills from the 80cf tank and then you can still get partial fills before having to get your scuba tank topped off. kirby
