Well, after looking at Shadows (Eds) fine hunting pics yesterday it got my hunting blood flowing and I just had to get out in the woods. Got home from work, changed into hunting clothes, grabbed the .22 Panther and headed for the woods. It rained all day yesterday so the woods were still damp and it was easy to silently slink along the trails searching the trees and forest floor for squirrels.
After about an hour of still hunting the trails I finally saw a squirrel clinging to a branch 30 yards away in the top of a large oak tree. He was angled away from me, clinging onto the branch with his body as flat on the branch as he could get it. I didn't have a clear head shot but I did have a great shot at the white hair just underneath his right paw. With the upward, angling away shot I had I figured the CPH should be able to take him out if I could get the pellet placed right under his paw.
Dialed the scope to 30, put the crosshairs on the target and pulled the trigger. Gun fired and I was rewarded with that loud "POP" the the CPH's make when they hit. The tree rat clung on for a second then did a death dive to the forest floor. Picked up my trophy and continued the hunt. I didn't see any more squirrels and it started to get dark so I headed home with just enough light left to take a couple of pics.
