XS-B3-1 .22 cal Nails a Starling
« on: February 19, 2008, 01:01:54 PM »
I was out in the backyard late this afternoon sighting in the XS-B3-1 .22 and had just finished shooting a nice group with some CPL's when a starling lands way up in the top of one of my oak trees.  I already had a  CPL loaded so I made my way over to the corner of the house and shouldered the XS.  Distance was just a tad over 20 yards, which is the distance I was sighting the rifle in for, so I put the crosshairs on his chest and pulled the trigger.  The CPL hit with a loud POP and the yellow beak fell like a stone.  Hit the ground with a thud and never moved.   The little rifles first kill  !!  Can't post a pic,,,, having some problems with the stupid camera,,, I think my memory chip committed suicide :(   ,, but the little rifle took out the starling like  a a pro.    :)

After nailing the starling I decided to test some other pellets for some grouping tests.   Long story short,,,,,, found out the XS loved superdomes, so I re-sighted her in for the superdomes.   Still have quite a few pellets to do grouping tests with, but for right now she's sighted in dead on with the superdomes and I'll keep her handy for "backyard patrol" duties.....

Jeff, I sure wish my air rifles would all love the same pellets like my dog loves the same food.. Would be easy just to buy a couple different brands of pellets and leave it at that..:)  Between you, ed and me we could probably sell all our pellets and buy a couple real nice PCP's with that money... :)  By the way great lil rifles those B-3's......

Nice shootin', Jeff. I haven't seen a starling around here for a couple or three months. I'm definitely looking forward to Spring.

Keep up the massacree on them yeller-beaks, and hope you get your camera back on track.

Ya got that right Gene,,,, every time I order pellets I always add in at least 1 new pellet that I've never tried cause ya never know what the rifle is gonna like :)

As for the Xs -B3,,, I love em, I just have such a blast shooting them around the backyard.  My .177 is a real tack driver with the Beeman silver bears and even though the superdomes are shooting real well out of the .22 I'm looking forward to trying the rest of my .22 pellets to see if I can find an even better performing one.

Thanks Bryan,,,,  for some reason we had quite a lot of starlings hang around for the winter, although they are much more wary now than in the summer, not quite sure why though.  This morning I was watching a flock of starlings across the street that had so many birds that when the flock landed in a  medium sized oak tree the bare branches suddenly turned into a thick, seething mass of black.  It was awesome !!   They never came near my yard but it was quite a site.  I see flocks that big at the duck farm all the time but don't see it that often in my neighborhood.
