GRT-III Trigger
« on: August 20, 2006, 11:57:05 AM »
I just got the new GRT-III yesterday.  Look great in its anodized gold finish.  But the real beauty is in the touch.  Boy does this feel good when compared to the stock trigger from my Gamo Shadow 1000.  Thanks... Charliedatuna.  It is also very easy to install even for a novice.

Got 'ta get one folks.

You hit the nail on the head. The GRT-III is a fantastic trigger design.

I got my GRT-II last week and it also works great.  My trigger problems are solved.  I found it amazing that you install Charlie's one piece trigger and remove four pieces of the old Shadow 1K trigger.  Makes me wonder why Gamo didn't do it that way in the beginning.  Way to go, CDT.

I sent the following response to Bob, (CharliedaTuna) after installing his GRT-III Trigger in my Gamo CF-X:

"Hi Bob,

I installed your trigger in my Gamo CFX yesterday morning.  It was sitting
in my mail pile when I came home Thursday night.  Installation took 1/4
hour.  I spent much of that time looking at other parts of the gun since
this was the first time I had it apart.  I used your instructions and the
step by step photos one of your customers gave you.  I "cheated" on the lube
instructions and used some of excess grease Gamo left on nearly everywhere
under the stock.  If you'll allow a suggestion, I occasionally buy
aftermarket parts for a Meade "go-to" telescope.  Like your trigger, these
parts are high precision.  The fellow I get them from, Peterson, packages
the particular lube he wants used with his parts in small plastic zip bags
along with the parts.  His reputation in the Meade Telescope forums is
magical.  Turnkey kits including the lube packets are part of the magic.
From my short experience with Gamo forums it looks like you have a similar
magical reputation.

By the way, as I was reassembling, I discovered that the hand grips have a
slot on the underside butt end that looks like a pry point.  Not knowing
about this, I used a jeweler's watch case tool to slip under the front to
lift the grip up enough to get my fingers under the lip.

Obviously, I had no trouble thanks to your excellent instructions and the
photo on your web site.  I used fairly high quality electrician's
screwdrivers from Home Depot.  They fit both the phillips and straight slot
head screws very well.  I had some blue locktite on hand.

Interestingly and probably due to random luck the cocking noise and
"grinding" feel is now much reduced.  I did not consciously touch anything
but the stock and the trigger.

The main point however is that your trigger has a wonderfully smooth and
short pull.  Last week I installed a Leapers 6 x 32 bug buster scope.  It
has a good focus ability and clear field of view.  With that scope I can
follow any movement of the cross hairs as I squeeze the trigger and then
immediately see the new pellet hole.  I find that I can concentrate on good
trigger technique much better with your trigger.  Yours has no distractions;
and much less tendency to pull off the aimpoint during trigger pull.  I did
my bench rest type testing yesterday inside at 10 yards.  My 5 shot groups
range from 3/8 to 5/8 inch now.  Prior groups at the same range ranged from
3/8 up to an inch.  (Beeman Ramjets)

At this point, I am really pleased.  It seems to me that I can account for
every outlyer as my fault: I moved, or did not use good trigger technique.
The stock trigger and scope combination were rough, long enough to challenge
my attention span and the scope would not focus well enough at 10 yards to
clearly see pellet holes.

I haven't yet established a baseline for outside at longer distances.  I
have a spot in my back yard that will let me shoot up to 30 yards.  However,
since the gun is loud, I'm a little nervous about firing more than an few
shots outside.  A sound meter two feet from the muzzle read 10.7 db last
week.  I'm hoping that I just haven't fired enough shots to burn off all the
manufacturing oils yet.  I'm some where past 250 shots but not to 500 yet.
I've ordered a chrony just to add to the fun and to learn a little more.  If
it stays loud or the chrony shows something unexpected, I will talk to you
about a tune.

Anyway, I'm having great fun with this gun and your trigger has made it more
fun.  Thanks.

Dale"

Interesting side note to the GRT III trigger.  A couple of weeks ago, I had a friend stop by with a 10M match rifle.  I think it was a CZ PCP.  Took that and my rifles out to the shop for a little indoor 10M action.  My rifles are a CDT tuned CFX with GRT trigger and a Diana 350.  The whole point here is a comparison of the triggers.  Those that have read some of my other posts on the 350 know I'm not thrilled with the trigger.  But here's where it gets good.  I shot the match rifle a few times, and was really impressed.  As a general rule, I can barely hit air shooting off hand, but was able to nail a couple of bulls with this thing.  Right after the match rifle, I shot my CFX.  Despite the very nice match trigger in the CZ, the GRT trigger in my CFX felt at least as good, possibly a hair lighter, and because the blade is wider, it "fit" better.  Been meaning to pass this on to Bob, I knew his triggers are good, but I didn't realize how good.  Way to go, Mr. Werner!

Dale, I wouldn't worry about the noise from your CFX too much.  I have neighbors on both sides, and unless they see me shooting, they don't even know I'm doing it.  And that's either rifle.  Forget the sound meter, get someone else to shoot the rifle and stand 10 feet away.  I think you'll be surprised, I know I was the first time I did the same thing.  Also, I tried Ramjets in my CFX, they were consistent according to the Chrony, but low velocity and not especially accurate.  Best pellet for the CFX seem to be RWS Superdomes, JSB Exacts with the 4.52mm head diameter, Beeman FTS, Crosman Premier Lights, and Beeman Kodiaks.  The first two work best in my rifle, FTS's are okay, anything Crosman sucks, and I don't use Kodiaks because of the weight issue.  Probably okay with the Maccarri spring Bob put in my rifle, but Bob thinks 9 gr. should be max for .177 rifles, and that's good enough for me.  Besides, I get almost 900 fps and 14.5 fpe from Superdomes.  Good luck, and keep us posted.

You WIll Never Know How Good The GRT III trigger......

Really is until after you install it in a Gamo after you have shot many pellets through it prior to the trigger. :)

Dave I was gonna talk about the same thing and you stole the words right outa me mouth... hehe

Now that I have bought an FX Cyclone, one of the leading PCP manufactures. Which by the way has an exceptional trigger. After shooting the FX Cyclone and then picking up one of my Gamo's with the GRT  trigger in it, then and only then you can appreciate the quiality of the GRT trigger. I paid $800.00 plus for the FX Cyclone. I paid $160.00 fpr my CFX, $100.00 for my Shadow, etc. Now I can honestly say that the GRT trigger is just as good as the trigger in my $800.00 Cyclone..:)

So for us guys who want the comfort of shooting with a nice trigger in our low costs springers then it is quite a deal to purchase a $29.00 trigger to put in any budget springers that it would fit in.

Glad you have mentioned that fact Dave because you are 100% correct about that. :)

I hate to rain on somebodys  parade but that little Mini II that I make does an outstanding job with a stock Gamo or Quest trigger. Very light pull weight and ajustable also

I had two of the GTX triggers and I removed them and sold them in favor of my little plastic insert.

Quite easy to install and not expensive at all.
If you don't belive me send me a stamped self eddressed envelope and I'll send a few out for all to see.

email me for the address.

No issue at all with your insert, Rich, I'm quite sure it works great, and would be interested in trying one for the next Gamo I buy.  But part of the appeal of Bob's trigger is both look and feel.  The stock blade just doesn't add a thing to the feel or the aesthetics of the rifles the way Bob's gold trigger does.  That plus the fact that it WORKS makes it a hell of a deal, in my NOT so humble opinion :-)!

What ever:  mine WORKS also, and quite well I might add, and at 1/4 the price.

I also got one of these triggers last week and I'm very impressed with the
design and the "BLING" factor as to how it makes the rifle work.

I emailed the following message to Bob after installing the trigger blade:

Hi Bob,
I just wanted to let you know I got time to install the trigger blade last
night I am very impressed with the outcome. I really liked my Gamo S1K
before, but I have to say I love it now with your trigger installed. My
first shot took me by surprise. My groupings improved quite a bit from not
having to pull the trigger, kinda works like slicing warm butter now. I'm
very glad I decided to try one out for myself, and would highly recommend
one to anyone who wants an excellent 2 stage trigger that is crisp and very
easy to pull. Very nice job on machining these triggers and wish you the
best of luck. Keep up the good work,
