HUNTING PELLET FOR GAMO WHISPER

What would you recommend for my Gamo Whisper .177 for various hunting.  Most shots will be with in 10 or maybe 20 yards most. 20% will be 30-40, never further. The game is strictly rabbit, squirrels, chipmunks and scavenger birds. I am looking at Gamo hunters, Tomahawk's, Predators and CPHP's. I am looking for outright devastion and instant death.
What would you suggest? Thanks JM

I use all of the above mentioned except the CPHP'S , my gal's liked them at first but do change their mind's at time's. The other's all work great including the Gamo Rocket's, Pro Mag's and Hunter's. Just keep tab's on the grouping of each type of hunting pellet for crosshair placement on dat varment.   Ed

CPHP work great in my Shadow. Gamo rocket also.  Wal-Marts in my area are now carrying the rockets at the lowest price I have found. Acadamey Sports is $3.99 for a 500 tin of CPHP. The CPHP's have taken down everything from rabbit,crows, birds, possum, quail, dove, armadillo and one stupid coyote that was right under my stand with one shot. I do get a lot of pass through shots however with CPHP. They will go through a 3/4 inch pine board at 30yds. I really like RWS Super domes when Bass Pro in Grapevine has them is stock.  Crow magnums I had great luck with also with less pass through shots. I had to drive to far to get them so I started using CPHP as they were readily available, cheap and very accurate to 50 yds.

I've tested Crosman Premiers 7.9gr, Gamo Tomahawks, Gamo Prom Magnums, & Crosman Premier HP in our Whisper.  For accuracy I'd take the Crosman Premier 7.9gr anyday with the Crosman Premier HP close behind.  I was less than satisfied with the accuracy of the others.  At close range I'd use the Crosman HP as they are too easy to pick up at a local store and they're inexpensive.  I've heard good things about the JSB Predators but at  $.05 each I think they're overpriced.  Dead is dead and the Crosman Prmeier HP seems to kill everything they hit.

Joe, my Whisper loves JSB Predators. Shoots better groups than any other pellet I have tried through it. Even better than superdomes and cphp.  They just seem to group really nice. I even think there is less recoil with them. I don't know why but it just feels like it.  Even though they are spendy, I think they are worth it. And when I do have a feathered target come into range, the Predators drop them like a bad habit.

I know from personal experience that they will break a spring. Thay are not very accurate either.

I have heard of no spring issues with the JSB Predators. And they might not be accurate through your gun, but mine loves them. I figured since sgtmeatsauce and I are shooting the same rifle they might work well in his. :0 Are you thinking of Gamo Raptors?

I use the JSB Predators all the time, in most of my guns, and have never had any problems with them.  They are consistently one of my most accurate pellets in a variety of gun, not to mention devastating on small game.    I do have a couple rifles that don't show a preference for them, but that's only a couple of guns.  As for breaking springs,,,,  all I can say is that I haven't experienced anything like that.

I meant to reply to another post about shooting Raptors in a springer. I must have clicked on the wrong thread.

I like Crow Mags for 10-20 yds. and Predators for 20-30. All for fruit rats so I really don't take any shots past 30 since they are so small. I've had the crosshairs right between the eyes of 2 or 3 opossums on my power lines, but I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Opossums really don't bother me....yet...hmmm...

I bought a assortment of pellets to play with based on the many reccomendations here. I wanted some of them rockets but they were backordered. I found a NEW equivalent but in a much heavier pellet, has the steel ball and all. It is called
the CROSMAN / BENJAMIN-SHERIDAN PREMIER FIREBALL .177CAL PELLETS 10.5 GRAINS 250 PACK, "Combines a lead body for accuracy and velocity with a hard copper plated steel ball for the ultimate in long range penetration" And at 10.5 grains this should be a shocking pellet combo. I am going to try and get some of them too.($5.94 for 250 each). I bought some Crosman Premier hollow points, CP Ultra Magnums, Gamo Tomahawks, and gamo hunters-Rockets were Backordered, JSB predators were 11.75 for 200, so I held off. Gonna look at those FIreballs....

I had a buddy at work try the gamo version of the BB impregnated into the pellet, and lets just say he had less than stellar results. pretty much the same as those PBA things.

I have been using the crosman premier hollow points for a little bit now, and at 20 yards they'll blow a barn door out the back of a squirrel.

I studied those pellets on every forum, review etc I could, and mixed the weights up staying a little heavy. I really wanted those Rockets or the Crosman Fireball pellet Lead pellet with copperplated steel ball in tip Long-range penetration 10.5 grains. I am getting the Tomahawks, the tip on these and the ball in the Rocket/Fireball configuration have ballistic powers well known from centerfire ammo. Wonder when they are going to come out with Magsafe type frangible ammo now that they have the Tomahawk/fireball/rocket types already. Closes we have to frangible now is the Gamo Hunters. The JSB Predators are suppose to be really great devastators and accurate too, but way overpriced like 12 bucks for 200.
