Cold Squirrel Hunt
« on: February 28, 2008, 01:32:10 PM »
Got home a wee bit early from work today so grabbed the TF-89 .22  and headed for the 200 acre woodlot down the road.  It was a brisk 26 degrees according to the truck outside temp. gauge, and the wind was blowing a bit, especially since these woods border the salt water Great South Bay, but I was determined to get the TF-89 her first confirmed squirrel kill.

Slowly hunted the trails and woods until sunset but the only kills the TF racked up were 3 old discarded beer cans that I set up as targets.  Killed em pretty good though :)

Did see one fat gray squirrel in some pine trees next to the parking spot where the truck was parked but he was working his way through the tree tops in the other direction.  I got out the squirrel call and starting making some barks and chattering calls and sure enough the nutter stopped, turned around and started calling back to me.  We kept "talking" to each other for about 10 minutes, and he did come a little closer, but he was still to close to one of the houses on the edge of the woods so I conceded the contest to the nutter and headed home.

If I get home from work early enough tomorrow I'll take the TF out for another hunt....

Thanks guys,,,, I'm hopin today is the day the TF-89 get her kill.

Hey Joe,,,, yeah,,, that piece of land is one of my favorite spots...  plenty of game and except for a couple of bowhunters little, if any, competition from other small game hunters.   It's also right down the road from me which makes it nice.

I have a couple of good places to show you when we hook up.  You did get the "pm" I sent you with my # right???

Hey Jeff,

Without a doubt you'll do just fine out there ! Now you only need to wait for the Squirrels to thaw out a bit, and start moving again !

God Bless you, I put out the trash yesterday, and thought that I might freeze before I MADE IT BACK INTO THE HOUSE, berrrrrrrrrrrr! A 20 point buck could have been laying in my back yard, and I would have just watched him from my back window ! That COLD went right through me... Just gettin OLD I guess!
