An overall review of the new GRT-Trigger
« on: August 21, 2006, 02:06:59 PM »
The new GRT-III trigger is now available and I have added a considerable amount of information regarding it including a basic overview of its manufacturing process on my website. See what it does, what it fits and how it’s made. Take a few minutes to stop by and look at it.

Hey Charlie,
Thanks for all of your knowledge and guidance---very helpful, I'm brand new to AG and I'm going to buy a rifle in the next few days. I've researched and studied everything so much I'm about cross-eyed!  I'd like your opinion, if you have a moment---what do you think--s1k combo, Varmint combo, rws 34 combo, hunter pro combo 1200fps---or??  Of course any gamo will get one of your new trigger assemblies.  Thanks again for all the time you spend giving your opinions.
Regards,
BPHurns

BP, don't fall for that 1200 and 1600 fps stuff. They are rating those air guns with very lite weight pellets. The Viper is the same as a S1K. Also the combo guns have funky scopes. You will not be happy with those scopes. It seems that Gamo is using most of the same rifles but they are putting on barrel shrouds, no sights and trying to sell the rifles with scopes only. Gamo owns BSA and you will get a bottom of the line BSA scope with a combo. Find the best price on S1K or CFX and then buy a decent scope.  I own 9 Gamo's and I never buy one with a scope. Only telling you this from experience.

The real question BP, is what do you want to do with your Air Rifle. Shoot paper, shoot small game, or? Each Gamo model has a particular use. Believe me I know...:) Do you want a heavy air rifle or a lite one?

Good Luck

Gene, thanks for saving me---I was looking into combos to save $, didn't know they were crap---my rifle will be multi-purpose---punch paper as well as rabbits, squirrels, crows. I'm gonna be a casual weekend/eve. target shooter and would like to knock down crows, etc. that venture too close to my house.  My kids will be shooting various youth guns. Not sure what you mean by heavy or light (weight or power). Can handle both.  Your recommendations would be very much appreciated--I thought about the cfx, but don't like the difficulties i've heard with loading. What about these 3-9x40 scopes instead of the avg. 4x32?
Regards,
BP :)

Your welcome BP. I mean heavy in weight.. The S1K will work for you. :) I own 3 of them. and 3 CFX's and love all of them. Both are great shooters. S1K is less weight than the CFX. You can do a search on our forum here and find pretty much everything you want to know. Our Library is filled with great information also. Be sure to visit our Mall for price comparisons. Don't forget to check your Wally World for a Gamo Shadow. Very cheap price and then find a good scope. Don't make the mistake I made and buy a 50 mil scope... he he

Remember that you will only be shooting probably up to 50 yards max. and you do not need a big old scope that you can see down town with from your house..:)

We have a buch of great guys here in this forum. Ask questions. No question is to stupid to ask. I ask the majority of those anywhay..:)

Read, learn and enjoy.

Good Luck BP

Everyone will tell you a different scope..:) I have like 12 scopes. BSA's, Leapers's, Barska's, Simmons. I find that the Bushnell 3-9x32 Sportsman Air Gun Scopeis very nice scope. Have just ordered a Bushnell 4-12x40 Banner Dusk & Dawn Air Gun.

Scopes are kinda a personal thing. Depending on your eye sight and age. Stay away from the big glass scopes like the .44 mil and .50 mil scopes.

Remember when you are looking for scopes that they must be for AirGuns..  The S1K is hard to keep a scope tight on. The other thing to get is a good scope mount. Personaly I would recommend a good mount. I am changing over all my older mounts to BKL Cantalever Mounts. They make 3 and 4 inch mounts. They will stay tight on an S1K. Here are a couple links you may want to look at.

http://www.riflescopes.com/default.asp

http://straightshooters.com/navagationpages/mountselections.html

Make sure you look at 1 inch scope shaft size and not 30 mil, with 11 mil dove tail. The BKL mounts are not cheap but you will not go wrong with them. Model #'s BKL 253 = 3" and BKL 254 = 4". that is the length of the mount.

Keep askin questions..:)

Checked out the sites for mounts and scopes----thanks! Is a bkl 260 overkill? seems like it has more holding power than a cantilever 253/254 which has fewer screws --and what about these "bug busters" i've seen and heard a little about--I guess since they adjust to 3 yds. you can shoot bugs? My kids would like that, but then I bet you may give up longer distance quality? Maybe that's why you've got so many rifles and scopes:)!You probably have them set up a little bit differently for their intended purpose.

Thanks again,

BP

Ya BP, the 260 would work great. I use the 253 and 254 because of weight. They are very lite. Don't let the size or amount of screws fool you. These are extremly strong mounts..:) On my Shadow 1000, I could not keep a scope mount to stay in one spot. Ended up drilling a dimple hole between dovetail on barrel and buying a Accushot mount with set screw on bottom of ring to lock it in place. That was an extreme measure. If I had know about the BKL mounts then, I would of bought one and tried it. The two hardest hitting springers I own are the Hunter Royal 1250 .22 and the Shadow 1000. Actually the Shadow comes no where close to the power of the big 1250 but both of them tried my patients in keeping scope mounts in one place..:)

Never owned a Bug Buster. Typically I shoot paper and hunt. Minimum of 10 yards out to 50 yards. To bad you do not live close buy then you could come over and test the waters...:)

I have Co2's, PCP's and Springers. They all serve a purpose. SHOOOOOOOTING...:)
