I'll second what everyone else has said here.
I cant shoot-em ever since the stopped invading my house.
Worse yet I found a newly born aprox 4" baby and hand raised her on Cat weaning formula from a pet store.
This thing was a giant ball of personality.
Ever see them play? Well she saw me as just another squirrel. I fell in love and it was hard to release her when about 8-10 months old.
I found our they're very territorial and if you have an established clan around your way they'll fight off any newbies. Mine came home a couple of times after release at the risk of a beating from Mom, Dad a Brother it doesn't matter. Then I never saw her again. Very cool experience.

just kidding:)

I am the same way, I grew up in the city where squirrels were more of an uncommon thing than the norm.  Rats are destructive, as I am sure squirrels are also in larger numbers, but I would have no problem wacking a rat, even by just stepping on it, whereas a squirrel would be a harder kill...unless I planned to eat it.  I am a firm believer in eating what you kill, unless there is another reason like protecting your property.  Most of the squirrels here just hop around on the fences, I don't eat them, so I have no reason to kill them.  If they were destroying my property, or if one of these guys that knows how to cook them came to visit, I would kill them.  Killing just to kill doesn't work for me...maybe I'm a wuss too:)

That critter on the fence was on a house hunting tour, if you live a the suburban area....Your "air gun neighbor" seven houses or so "over that away" is not The Wuss!     But, the neighbor must have had a shaky moment and let off a bad head shot.  I hope the fence sitter friend doesn't move-in to the Gamo plinking target box next...In that case you may have little else left to shoot at.  Keep up the marksmanship and a eye on your rooftop for fuzzy's  command view of you are while shooting the "iron squirrel on a rope". Well I think it is about time we hear from the neighbor and his bad day's hunt.  HeHeHe

Not a wuss in my opinion, killing a rat and killing a squirrle are two diferent things. I dont kill edible animals unless I am prepared to eat it, or clean it and pass it on to someone who will eat it.
