Discovery .22
« on: March 14, 2008, 12:56:58 AM »

Having owned it for over a month and shooting it often I thought it time to offer my opinion.

As a complete overall gun I have to give this gun all 5 thumbs.
I don't own all the guns there are to be had so I can't compare this gun to everything available but I can say that it is much better than average and or usually excels in every area in comparison to what I own.
Fit & finish.
Quality of product.
Power,
Accuracy,
It was only the crunchy trigger that required a good polish to take it from better than acceptable to dam good. Not great but totally predictable with a pull light enough not to throw you off your aim.
I bought this gun and after establishing it could provide very accurate and consistent shots with the right pellets unscoped, I decided to scope it.
I had a 4x32 a.o. BSA that I quickly found was too small for this guns potential.
I installed a Centerpoint 4-16x40AO and eventually became bored with that. The fact that it was not exactly clear at 16 power might have hurt my overall impression.
I'm now back to a BSA but this time an 8-32x40AO that has me giggling with a lot of one hole'rs at 35 yards.

I've yet to find this guns potential and with the cottage industry thats out there ready to support this gun with this and that makes me anxious to see whats coming out for it next?

The gun itself shoots consistently in the 8-900 fps depending on pellet weight and has very little deviation shot to shot when shooting the same pellet.
Accuracy shows it to have a decent if not great barrel since the few fliers I get I tend to blame on either pellet manufacture or myself since they are few.
It is light and well balanced.

Myself I appreciated a but extension I installed to accommodate my preference in trigger to shoulder distance. (long arms)
I've had this gun for over a month and shot it quite a bit so my review isn't new toy elation, that went away weeks ago. In fact I've bought three guns since.

Enjoyed your review VERY much.... I've been seriously considering ordering a .22 Disco for quite some time. I"m still "on the fence" but your review has me leaning closer to that beautiful "order button". :)

OH, by the way,,,, how hard is it to fill it up with the pump???? And,,,,, how many shots are you getting from a full charge?? thanks...

I'm getting 25-30 good shots that will bring it down from 2000 to 1000 lbs, I'll then refill it, and yes it is eventually hard to pump.

Reminds me of my younger days when I delivered packages for RPS. The most common question I'd get from a customer was
"is that heavy?"
My most frequent reply was it wasn't five minuets ago when I picked it up, but it is now.

The pump becomes hard after twenty five pumps and gets progressively harder to fifty. Some times I have to sit down and collect myself before I can shoot the dam thing.
Who knew air gunning could be an aerobic exercise?

Glad you like it. , I'll be filling mine with a scuba tank when it gets here next week. I'm not sure I could handle all that pumping. kirby

Thanks for the reply,,,, I was really interested in the pumping effort required. Will have to ponder my pending purchase a bit more. I"m headed over to Cobra Airguns on Monday and I think Dave has the rifle and pump in stock,,,, think I'll ask him if I can pump one up and see for myself if it will be a problem. I have a couple of herniated discs in my neck and back and I'm not looking to irritate them. Thanks again.

Very well written.

My opinion on the pump....this is not to offend anyone.

I think if it's hard to pump, you probably NEED the exercise anyway...and I mean that in a joking fun kinda way.
I'm a lightweight myself @140lbs. and I do have to put some effort into it near the end of the filling cycle.

Totally agree!
I'm often thinking how out of shape I'm in if I'm getting winded pumping this thing.
I really don't mean to make it sound like it is actually hard to pump, in fact it's quite easy!
It's just that after a while it becomes obvious that this neglected physique of mine needs attention.
I'll start jogging and quit smoking tomorrow! :D

No offense taken . But sometimes it's not about needing exercise ; that prevent others from using a pump. It's about physical limitations . Also make sure the pump you are using has a dry pack attached to it to remove the moisture from the air you're pumping into your gun's air cylinder or you maybe setting yourself up a rust situation . The air from a scuba tank is pretty much moisture free.  kirby

I have one question...

What height are those scope mounts that you have on it right now?
