I bagged my first critter tonight with my recently returned, Tuna'd Shadow.
It was past dusk and I decided to make the rounds through my 2 acres and one of my neighbor's acradge. (I have been given the OK to bag whatever pest animals are on 2 of my 4 neighbor's property day or night.)
I had sighted in my gun today at 30 yards and it was shooting nickles. The pellet of choice during sight in was the Benjamin Diabolo (7.9 gr). The pellet of choice at shoot time was Logun Penetrator which at 30 yards had NO drop or Rise at that range. For me.
** I had to send my shadow BACK to Charlie cause I was unaware of the "Heavy grain ammo causes spring fatigue" issue and had fired about 1200 Crosman Ultra Magnums through my Shadow 1000 in .177 cal. Charlie had to replace my spirng, seal and he relubed it. (Deity bless you Charlie)**
The rabbit was in my neighbor's gravel driveway. He must have been happy because he let me creep up from 40yds to 25yds AND put down my bipod legs to rest on one of my neighbor's many rebuild lawn tractors. I put the legs down, started breathing, adjusted for range (1/4 mil dot down) and pulled the trigger on breath 2 1/2.
POW!! He hit the ground, started to twitch and I reloaded with a Benji Diabolo. There was no need. By the time I closed the range he was still. Upon further inspection I had bagged a 4.5 lb cottontail with a shot to the eye, exiting approx. .5 inch lower than the other eye. I bothered to weigh him so he was still young. (previously I'd bagged a 7lb'er that was mature)
Quick, clean, no caffienne.
Nice restart to my pest control hunting.
Again, THANKS CHARLIE. You gave me my tack driver back!!
