In the process of doing other things to my CFX, I happened to pull off the recoil pad, only to discover that the stock is hollow. Now here's the silly idea. Since more weight tends to increase stability and decrease recoil of almost any kind of shooting iron, would adding some weight in the hollow stock be an advantage? Say, use lead shotgun shot, like a dead blow hammer is filled with. Since my CFX is on its way back from Charlie, I haven't had a chance to give this a whirl. But if anyone has tried something similar, I'd like to hear the results. And if not, I'll post my results when/if I get around to actually trying it. I intend to make a custom thumbhole stock out of Ipe, a very dense, heavy tropical hardwood. At about 68 lbs. per cubic foot, I should end up with a CFX that weighs about 20 lbs. That should soak up a lot of recoil! Later.
