New idea for improving springer performance!!
« on: March 26, 2008, 01:41:17 AM »
Hi,
As im fairly new to airguns im not sure if this has been tried before but is it possible to insert 2 springs into an airgun one inside the other?
has any one tried this and if so what was the result.
the idea came to me from working on old performance cars where 2 springs are used on the valves to stop them bouncing and get them to close quicker in high rev applications.
Im tempted to try it on an old gamo but not sure if it will take my head off or not.

Cheers from Aus

adrian

relum tornado etc. had 2 mainsprings one inside the other, don't know if these were any good, may have been a gimmick in the 70's when they were being made, and airguns started chasing power

see attached

at least you know it can work, hope that's some use

Welcome to the GTA Forums Adrian,

The big problem would be,being able to cock the air gun. Two springs would make it twice as hard to cock the gun, or harder !

And until they start making better pellets to deal with the speed of sound, and hold steady and keep their energy, higher velocities are a waste, no long range accuracy.

New ideas are always great, and my answer is not meant to putyour ideadown, but just to point out some problems. PCP rifles have all the power they want, but not the pellet they need ..

I look forward to seeing your post in the future. :) Welcome to the GTA Forums !

Bugger I thought I was the first one to think of it oh well im only about 40 years too late.
However to answer youre post big bill I was thinking of using it on the higher calibre maybe.22 or .25 as they have a lot less velocity and I think they could benefit with a bit more.
I was thinking also of extending the cocking lever to counteract the cocking weight. If I could get a .25 that would shoot 800fps id be a happy man.
