Storm barrel bushing
« on: March 26, 2008, 07:52:52 AM »
I have had a POI problem on my storm that I use for target practice. Yesterday I removed the barrel to make sure the washers were there and found that they were but noticed that the bushing to bolt clearance was at least a 1/16 of a inch . I understand a $100 rifle is a $100 rifle. My question is has any one made a replacement bushing with proper tolerance and tried it in their rifle. Mine did not have excess ware and a factory replacement will not help or at least that is my thought. I don't know if the latch will work properly with a tight fitting bushing . Like a door sometimes you replace the hinges with new ones and now the latch will not line up and work. I do not have a lath to turn one out to try and I would hate to pay a machinist to turn one and not have it work. With out the scope it will hold a fare group but for get it with a scope . And yes I'm using a AO adjustable scope and I'm sure I have narrowed it down to this issue. Marvin

At this point I do not have good calipers to give you measurements their 15 miles away in my tool box . The bushing is tight in the barrel hinge and the bolt tightens good with no ware showing on the bolt or the inside of the bushing . But when I put the bolt in the bushing there is at least a 1/32 - 1/16 of play. I wondered no more as to the cause of inaccuracy packed the bushing with some really heavy grease and put it back to gather and left the scope off . Today I HAD OK GROUPS CONSIDERING IT ALL BUT THAT'S WITH THE SIGHTS ON THE BARREL BUT THE BARREL CAN NOT BE LATCHING IN THE SAME PLACE EVERY TIME OR APP LING THE SAME PRESURE TO THE BREACH SEAL TO SEAL IT OR DAMPEN THE VIBRATION THE SAME AT EACH SHOT .I know a machinist that might help but he just had back surgery and he is out of commission. You understand my concerns about that latch working so I might have to wait for him. As I stated I don't want to through money away if it will not work with a new bushing. Marvin

Thank you let me see when I can take the rifle apart again. I might have to wait till I can get to my tool box to see if I have a driver to remove the old bushing with out destroying it. My next question is if I can get measurements with my el cheap o calipers that have metric measurements can you work with them or do you need our standard decimal measurements. I admit I'm tight but I have put money in to this rifle already and the pleasure of victory over it wares thin after while if you know what I mean. Marvin

melloroadman:

The Storm, Sierra Pro and Quest, according to Crosman, differ only cosmetically and the parts diagram for all are found under model #C1K77.

Parts List numbers:

    [*]19  C1K77-019 Bolt[*]20  C1k77-020 Washer[*]21  C1k77-021 Bushing
    [/list]

The Crosman web site at http://www.crosman.com gives their phone number and links to this parts diagram pdf URL:

    http://www.cros,am.com/2004/pdf/manualarchive/C1K77-EVP.pdf

I suspect the cost of the available Crosman parts would be less than $15 including shipping.

Yes but by looking at mine there is no ware so replacing poorly fitted bushing with new poorly fitting bushing will not correct the problem . This is not a old rifle it is 6 months old may be 1500 shoots and I made sure it was oiled well from the beginning. If I hear some one say they have had theirs apart and theirs was has a properly fitted brake joint then I would be willing to give it a try but my guess is this is a typical fit for this rifle but that is a guess and I'm willing to be corrected . I would think this bushing bolt fit would be with in a few 1000ths not a few 30 seconds but there again please correct me if I'm wrong .Marvin

After reading your last post I got curious. Took all three of mine apart only to find perfect bushing to pivot bolt fit in all three. Reassembled all with thin film of 70% moly on the pivot bolt.
It is possible that a defective bolt or bushing may have been installed at the factory.
It's a toll free call to Crosman - tell them about the problem and ask if someone could check the bolt-to-bushing fit before packing & shipping. You have nothing to lose.

Marvin, remember to go ahead and order any parts you might need when you call in your order to Crosman, because I think they have a flat $4 (?) shipping rate no matter how much you order.

Good luck with it.

I ordered a f 1 chorny from wal-mart that will be here next week so I think I might wait and test the rifle first to see if I need any thing else. And yes I have ordered from them before and I have had good service . Marvin
