moderators are legal and silencers are as well
« on: August 30, 2006, 06:55:50 AM »
moderators capture high pressure cool air and restrict the high pressure release into lower pressure air reducing thepressure shock caused.

silencers on the other hand are restricted by the g'mnt and require a $200 tax stamp , but operate on a different principle. silencers cool hot gasses to a temperature close enough to existing air temp so that the hot~cool 'thunder effect' is reduced.

the main concern is that the letter of the law is that a device capable of reducing the report of a firearm by 1dB for one shot requiresthe tax stamp. most moderators are going to do that , so they must be attached to the airgun in such a way so thatit will be destroyed by removal from the airgunso it cannot ever be used on a firearm as it was built.

building a moderator that would befire destroyed without reducing the report if used on a firearm is one solution.

the other is get the tax stamp and have a class 2 federal firearms manufacturer build the device for you , otherwise it is also possible to be charged with manufacturing a class 1 destructive device without the proper licensing.

purpose built for air seems to me tobe the route to take . . . :o

3noon

In our forum policies, we request that none of our members speak of silencers due to the fact that these discussions may attract attention from the Feds. If you read our policies, you will know what I am saying.

Welcome aboard though and we all welcome your posts. Tell us something about yourself and what Airguns you shoot.

Thanks

Gene

LOL, That is just the problem.... We all know that but there is a fine line when talking about the subject.

Besides, the subject brings in a million posts about it and we do not want to discuss it on our forum. Just hope you understand.

By the way, you have a fantastic collection there. I also enjoy shooting everything Mr Tuna has tuned for me also. How do you like your Samatra? I just got one a month ago and I think it is an aswsome PCP. It is my first PCP and I love it. Just a lil on the heavy side for me though. Wish they made one as powerful but 4 lbs liter..:)

By the way our forum belongs to all the members here. I only hang out and learn from all you pros... he he

Enjoy

maybe a misinformation buster in the 'top gate' area?

it'd be nice to just put the law facts out for general knowledge , and would require no schematics of an actual device. i understand that it is a 'grey area' subject and any way to alleviatethat would be useful in my book. :)

the sumatra is definatelya real powerhouse , butcertainly quitenose heavy. the DAQ is the cure , but they're in very limited supply . . . :0

drop me an email and we can get together and shoot some of'em 8)
