HW30 4, Grackles Zero
« on: April 04, 2008, 02:48:40 PM »
Well, my arch nemisis is back in growing force. It's the start of mating season for them. They are pompous, noisy, generally rowdy and showing up in ever increasing numbers. Unfortunately for them they have decided that my yard and trees should be included in their nonsense. Their cackling and calling attracts more than a prospective mate, it grates on my nerves. So, I reintroduced them to the grackle culling machine. The HW30 stretched her muscles and went to work this evening over about an hour's time. Three of them out of the Maple in my front yard, one out of the Spanish Olive in the back yard. A quick, low noise pop and they plummeted to the ground. Average of about 20 yard shots.

The grackles' arch nemisis and her prey:

Soon your obnoxious prey will learn of your 10m skills, Stephanie !

And I believe that they will take up their poor behavior elsewhere, for sake of life and wing !

Outstanding shooting with your very beautiful pneumatic projectile firing weapon. lol

Congratulations ,

Some nice shooting there Peak!! Wish i had some grackles to have a go at in my back yard. Unfortunately i live in a Townhouse complex, and if i lean over the wall separating me from the neighbour i can almost touch his house. I do a little target shooting with my "silenced" (legal here) QB-79.

Nice rifle, and keep posting those pics.

Good work. How's the HW30 compare to an R7? I've been thinking of buying one and a tune kit when I get the stimulus tax refund.
Thanks

Thanks guys, those avian villians have fallen by the dozen to the HW30, and a few of my other shooters.

TWBryan, the HW30 and the R7 are, for all intents and purposes, the same rifle. There are two version of the HW30, the version I have has the Perfekt trigger as opposed to the Rekord trigger. The Perfekt trigger is a nonadjustable, two stage trigger. The Perfekt trigger breaks at 3-4 lbs, mine is actualy very good. With the Perfekt trigger the safety is a lever on the end cap of the receiver, down for safe, up for fire. I actually like it better than the safety button on the side of the receiver on the Rekord trigger R7 and HW30s. The R7 also has checkering on the pistol grip, the HW30 does not. The powerplant, barrel, perfomance, everything else is the same between the HW30 and the R7. As I understand, Beeman will be importing the HW30s now too, the version with the Rekord trigger. Either way, HW30 or R7, you get a super sweet, very accurate rifle.

Well I am not surprised what you and your HW 30 are doing Peak..:) When I first set down and shot my new HW 30 that I bought from David Kirby, I was amazed at the accuracy. It is not a powerful shooter but a very smooth quiet accurate piece of art. I would like to thank you and David for all your reviews and conversations on these German hussies..:) The lower powered German springers are very well made and ina class of there own. Great shooting Peak and I am sure soon you will have exterminated all those birds that land in your perimeter..:)

Thanks Peakchick,I think that's the way I'll go. The HW30,tune kit, seal and then toss my 6X32 bug buster scope on it. Hook a light on it,and I've got a good rat-tapper/pest controller. Keep up the good work on those birds.

Thanks

Good job Stephanie!!  I hate them too.  They also seem to keep attacking the dove's nest to take it over and the poor doves rush into the spruce to save their young every time.  I saw through the scope today a Grackle standing over the dove (big) nest and all of a sudden the young started screaming but I think I was too late.  I think they killed at least one.  I couldn't believe it.. because I saw another one eating something on a branch.. to be continued in another thread.

Keep at them, they are nothing but a big nuissance.  I hate their calls too.  It's like someone is scratching a whiteboard with a broken chalk.
