Springers - spring compresses air to fire pellet
Multi-Pump - each pump compresses air in air chamber to fire pellet...variable power depending on amount of pumps
PCP - Pre Charged Pneumatic - air cylinder holds air which is filled with hand pump or scuba tank
CO2 - screw on air tanks used to fire pellets - non-refillable

I think that would cover most of the ways to propell a pellet.....correct me if I'm wrong.

But what is HPA ?

HPA, would be High Pressure Air, in a tank, kinda like CO2 but higher pressure, with a regulator to step the pressure down to 750-1150psi.

HPA is a more steady gas,It actually stays in gas form throughout the entire cycle,it's a cleaner gas & actually better for the internals..I believe it is nitrogen.....they use it much more with the paintball guns.....

In a HPA system the bottle is usually filled to 3000 psi or 4500 psi by a scuba tank, a dive shop, or a pcp pump for smaller bottles.
The high pressure air  is then regulated down to a lower pressure typically 800-1200 psi by a regulator on the bottle. So even though the bottle pressure decreases as you shoot ,the regulated pressure going into your gun is pretty consistent up until the bottle pressure gets near the regulated pressure. For me it was a great repalcement for co2 since it is not affected by cold temperatures or rapid firing as is co2. I use it now on my RWS 850 and AR2079 and really like it and will probably never use co2 again. I have various regulators with output pressures from 750 to 1200 PSI . They are fixed regulators and can only be adjusted by changing the internal springs or shimming.

So basically HPA is part of PCP....   Only with higher pressure and a regulator to control the amount of air going into the gun.

I might dip into the "Dark Side"....maybe next year....just needed to get more info on the air delivery systems.  I find CO2's abit wasteful....what to do with all the finished canisters after they're empty?  Long time ago I had a Crosman .357 magnum that used the small co2 canisters....after lots of shooting and money....I ended up throwing the canisters into the garbage.

I'm interested in the Talon SS or the Condor....since I never had a "tactical" looking airgun....and from what I've read....they're really accurate and powerful.  I think I'll just start out with the hand pump...and yes I've read that the last couple of pumps are really hard....and might end up buying a small scuba tank.  But that's in the future.....

Btw....in the long run do 20 oz CO2's cost more than a small scuba tank with all the clamps/gauges etc. for a PCP gun?
