Lucky Squirrel
« on: April 09, 2008, 09:56:16 AM »
I was plinking away this afternoon with my Weirauch HW80K when this little so and so attacked my brand new bird feeder I had placed there not less than 20 min's beforehand! He was so clever I did not have the heart to shoot him as he was marvellous to watch. Three strikes and he's out!

regards,
Alan :)

Beautiful photos Alan. Things look very lush and verdant there. Spring is a little slow in coming here at the base of the Rocky Mountains. I'm a bit envious.
Don't give that thieving rodent too many chances...........  :)

Better take care of him quick, or you'll be having to replace that feeder.

Great pic's guy, they will do about anything to get some viddles. Everyone knows me, let's see targetbox or nutter hanging off my feeder. Can't eat the targetbox so into the icebox for the bat hanging squirrel.:) Thank's for sharing and I printed out a copy for my target box hehehe. Ed

Good pics but they can chew through the wood too you know.. so better get him before he destroys it.

So let me think.. if I put up a bird feeder and the squirrels attack it and steal the bird food or damage it, do I have the right to shoot them in the off-season?  Hmm.. better call the DEC to find out.  I think you gave me an idea because my self-control is running out.  There were 6 of them on my property today running around on my property enjoying the fact that hunting season is over :)

There is no season here in London. I think you can shoot them if you've attempted all other resonable means first. A shooter has to be sure of a hit as a pellet landing in some other adjacent property is a no no. I think the Gestapo, sorry, local authorities are OK with shooting if they are eating your house otherwise they take a dim view. I shall keep an eye on the feeder. On Saturday I am putting a few more in my big holly tree. I wonder how long it will take before they find them?
To be honest I kinda like the squirrels, please don't throw me off the forum! However if they start eating all my bird feed them it's goodbye Mr & Mrs. Squirrel.  I do blast the rats. Since there is a mania for wooden decking in poeples gardens the rats are here with a vengance. They like the nice cosy habitat it makes for them. I've shot at least a dozen this year as I see rats as a real health hazard. I never take pics as I don't plan on eating the rats.
regards,
Alan :)

It's ok Alan, I'm the same way with the nutters here. If they leave my pecans, shed and house alone, I'll leave them alone, but when they cross that line, there taken care of quickly.
