Armadillo's
« on: April 13, 2008, 07:11:36 AM »
Anyone had any luck with armadillo hunting? If so what did you use? My TF99 just bounces of their shells  and a head shot is near impossible, they turn and run when the light hits them.
 Thanks

I got one last year . A friend and I walked up on it during day light while squirrel hunting . I put a .177 JSB 8.4 between his eyes , at about 20 yards and it rolled into a ball and then rolled down a hill for at least 50 yards with us chasing it. When we got to it , it was kicking it's last kicks . My friend was surprised by what the Air Arms 12fpe carbine would do. kirby

For sure a magnum springer would do the job with JSB Preditors. Those pellets break bone and a head shot should bring excellent results. I would use my TF-89 .22 springer with those preditors for sure. The TF-89 .22 is my most powerful springer at this time. Shoots in the low 800 fps range.

Jeff, here's a quote taken from the Armadillo fact page

5. Do people really eat armadillos?

Yes. In many areas of Central and South America, armadillo meat is often used as part of an average diet. I have heard that some peoples of South America keep small varieties of armadillos as edible housepets. During the Depression, armadillos were often eaten by hungry people. They were called “Hoover hogs” by people angry with then-President Herbert Hoover’s broken promise of a chicken in every pot. The meat is said to taste like fine-grained, high-quality pork. But I'll pass on the Armadillo . Here's a link to some more facts , including the one I've always heard about them being disease carriers. http://www.msu.edu/~nixonjos/armadillo/faq.html . They are considered to be pests here in Georgia. kirby

Hey Guys,

I have eaten Armadillo, I thought it tasted like sweet chicken (my best comparison), but it was very good.

I can never understand those that turn up there noses at wild food, as most of these animals are cleaner than Chickens and Pigs ! And make a tasty meal.

Remember, There is a place in this world for all Gods animals, right next to the mashed potatoes !
