Last week a friend and his wife came out to the Rocking 44 to visit for a couple of days. He has been teasing me for a long time about my “BB guns†but had never actually seen them. I had told him that we would do some hunting while they were here.
I have about 20 pellet guns (last time I counted) and that really seemed to blow his mind. I had placed small colorful herds of hard rubber dinosaurs as well as some scattered animal cookies and paint balls on golf tees at several locations and distances away from our deck off the back of our home. The area is heavily wooded with oaks so there are many natural looking areas for dinosaurs, lions, tigers and the like to hang out near azaleas and other bushes we have added to the landscape. There are even a couple of pterodactyls that hang out near one of the camellias.
After a bit of ribbing, he was ready to give it a try. I explained what I think I know about how to shoot pellet guns (hold and etc.), and then we started sniping from the deck. The wives came out to watch and got interested, picked up the biniculors and started spotting for us. He got the hang of it right away and we spent several hours hunting all the wild animals, resurrecting the surviving dinosaurs as necessary. The wives decided they had to give it a try and before long, we were all “into itâ€, as they say.
They all soon gravitated to the RWS 24 and 46E as their favorites. Not surprising to me as I like these two as well. They have enough punch and accurate with the mil-dot scopes for our “hunting range†out to 40 yards. They did not care for the RWS 350M with complaints of “to heavy†and “this thing kicks,†but what do they know?
I tried to unload a fair shooting, scoped QB 36 on him when he went home, but he turned me down saying, “heck no, I want one of those fancy rifles – where can I buy one.†Their house backs to the bay with miles of open water on one side and he plans to put up his “hunting range†there. I’m certain there is now a new “BB gun guy†in my neck of the woods and we are all looking forward to the next “big game†hunting expedition.
I think it fair to say that a good time was had by all.
Cheers
