Riser block on CFX vx Whisper
« on: April 16, 2008, 04:00:24 AM »
In comparing the two rifles I see that the riser on the CFX goes all the way to the end of the rifle whereas on the CFX it ends a half to three quarters away from the end. I find that I could use the scope back closer to my eye and I just moved it as far back as possible but I could still use a half inch or so. I prefer not to take off the scope etc so I am wondering if the riser can be moved back on the Whisper. I figure the more I mess with allen heads the more likely I will strip one etc. The riser does have a stop pin so I am wondering if there are more locations for the pin for the riser. My B 40 has three stop holes I think.

The Whipser has only one stop hole in the receiver so if you move the rise back it will not have a stop hole to help hold it still.  I suggest removing the riser all together.  The riser is made of soft aluminum and eventually you'll find the riser's pin stop hole to be getting distorted.  The recoil of your gun will cause the issue and the only fix is a new riser or removal of it.  The receiver on the gun is perfect for using a Accushot medium mount directly on the gun without the riser.  The medium mount will allow you to use a scope with up to a 40mm objective.  If you go this route you will most likely never have a problem with scope creep.  If you do choose to try this approach and are uncertain of how to remove the riser, I'll be glad to walk you through it.  It requires partial disassembly of the gun in order to slide the riser off the back side of the gun.

i have one peice mounts on both my the cfx and big cat. i ran into the same problem with the scope being too far from my eye when the mount's pin is set into th risers stop pin hole, so i decided to not use the stop pin on the mount and moved the scope mount all the way back plush with the end of the riser. the riser is on firm with 4 screws and stop pin holding it, so that wasn't my concern. it's the scope mount that i was worried about, about it sliding off. after i secured it and did some test shooting. the scope didn't creep at all.

i found that aluminium on aluminium grips better than aluminium on steel. so only the riser has to be tightly secured and with use of the stop pin to the gun. if the scope rings or mount is made of aluminium if shouldn't slide.
