Disco leaks air
« on: April 16, 2008, 12:53:38 PM »
I've had my Disco about a week and a half and love it, but I think it has developed a leak or always had one and I didn't notice. I have noticed that I don't get the 30-35 shots per 1900 - 2000 psi fill. I filled it to 2000 psi last night and then today after work I looked and it was around 1500. Is there anything I can do or check? Is there a certain place that is common for leaks? I really don't don't want to send it back because I waited sooooo long to get it.

Thanks in advance.

Only three cplaces it would likely leak from, and the good news is that one test can isolate two of them.

Charged, cocked, no pellet, bolt closed...dump the muzzle end (without the cap that covers the fill nipple) into water.  Leak that slow might take a bit of time for any bubbles to show up, but if it bubbles from the barrel, then the valve stem seal is probably leaking...if it bubbles from the nipple (either the treaded in section or the end of the nipple),  then that's your problem.

OF the two, the nipple is the easy fix.  There is a third way ti can commonly leak, but no easy test.  Could leak past the valve body towards the rear of the rifle.  No easy test for that one, but if the first test rules out the valve stem and the nipple, can be pretty sure the valve body seal is the cause.

I have heard of a couple that leaked at the gauge thread area . A little soapy water sprayed around the gauge and threads would show the leak. Good luck Marvin

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I did the barrel in the bucket and no leaks there. Do I need to take the stock off to get to the gauge or can I just spray some soapy water with it all together?

Thanks again for the responses.

It would be best to remove the stock first. Kirby has listed the safety removal trick in a earlier post . Its the spring holding the safety in place . If that's the leak some tread tape should take care of it and you will be off shooting again. Marvin

Make sure you shoot all the air out of the tube before removing the gauge if that's where it's leaking . You may have know this already , I just don't want someone getting hurt working on their rifle. With that said , The safety has to be removed before you can safely remove the action from the stock. To do thsi look inside the trigger guard behind the trigger and there is a slot . inside the slot is a wire spring . Take something small and pull that wire forward , and while it's forward , push the safety out. Replacing afterwards will require the reverse of holding the wire forward and inserting the safety . Good Luck. kirby

Thanks again guys for the help. I'll be checking the gauge tomorrow after a morning squirrel hunt...:-)

I'll be sure to let everyone know what the outcome was.

I haven't had  chance to mess with it yet. I just can't get get it get below 1000 psi....It won't let me....:-) I try and try, but somehow the pump hooks itself up and then I'm airing it up and back to shooting....:-) I'll get to it this weekend I hope and definitely report back.
