varmint hunter laser
« on: April 18, 2008, 05:14:50 AM »
Anyone have any method for making it hold it's zero?
Mine moves on every shot...i replaced the adjustment set screws with bolts so I can zero it to the scope each time easily but it's a drag... :emoticon:

Mine was horrible out of box, but after messing around with it a lot I figured out what helps.  First, use some blue loctite on the screws and let it dry.  Then make your adjustments and make sure that once you're dialed in, you tighten the slotted screw well.  Re-check your windage/elevation after tightening the slotted screw and make further minor adjustments if needed.  For me, the loctite helped create a little drag on the set screws so they don't shift so much and the laser holds true for me much longer now.

I was afraid to because i'm worried that i wouldn't be able to adjust it after that...but i can understand the added drag helping.
my concern is that it's not the screws...is there a spring inside that pushes against the laser element opposite the screws?

The blue loctite isn't permanent and is easy to remove once dried.  I believe it's made to help screws work loose from vibrations.  There is a spring that rests under the slotted screw.  If you remove the slotted screw, just keep an eye out for the spring and you should be fine.  Heck, you may be able to try a more stiffer spring - that may make it wobble less.

I gave up messing with mine, I now have it installed under the barrel, near the dampener on my Whisper. I sight it in on the full length of my yard to hit within a soda can area. Trying to be much more accurate then that with el cheapo equipment is nuts. I find a Gamo Hunter pellet(or if in a nasty mood a Gamo Rocket), a nice dark night, walk out sit on my porch till my eyes focus and their is no rodent in my whole back yard that I can not shoot in less then 5 seconds right in the head. Thats about as good as it gets for laser usage for me...

The locktite has worked flawlessly...thanks everyone. :)

One observation...i think part of my problem was that i mounted the light/laser combo like it's pictured on the box...centered...laser on one side of the scope, light on the other.
Because the laser was mounted off to the side, if the target was closer than the distance I zero'd the laser at, the laser's point was off to one side...at longer distances, it would be off to the other side.
I think this condition confused me a little bit at the time, and I may have thought it was moving around because it was loose.
What i have since done is rotate the mount so the laser is centered on top of the scope...that way, i can adjust elevation in my mind for various ranges, but it stays put L to R.
Hope this helps anyone with a similar issue.  :)
