JSB Exacts, anyone?
« on: September 05, 2006, 11:48:34 AM »
For those of you that like the Exacts as much as I do, but hate trying to find someone that has them in stock, I may have your answer.  Airguns Only, in Canada, not only seems to keep them in stock, and at a good price, but they have them in 4 different head diameters!  And they will be happy to send out mixed sleeves.  I ordered a sleeve of 10 in mixed diameters on 8/30, total with shipping was $81.46.  They got here today.  That's what I call service.  I don't think any of the usual local suppliers can do any better, and none of them that I know of offer the size variety.  Hope this helps someone.

I looked at their prices and most are $64.50 per sleeve plus shipping. Some are $54.50 per sleeve. So tell me if you do not mind which JSB's did you buy?

Thanks

JSB Exacts at $64.99 USD per sleeve of ten, $16.47 for shipping.  JSB Match Diabolo's are $54.99.  Slightly lighter (8.26 gr.) and a wad cutter style.  Even with the buy 3, 4th free from Pyramid, it would have been almost $80 for pellets, shipping additional.  And take what they have (if they have anything in stock!), no choice in head diameter.

Maybe the latter isn't a big deal, but I keep hearing comments about the oversize Gamo barrels, so this seem like the best way to do some careful, objective testing to see if there's a quantifiable difference.  My intent is to test for both accuracy, and velocity.  I'm expecting to see some correlation between head diameter and accuracy, as well as velocity, but I haven't totally worked out my testing regimen yet, so suggestions are welcome.  My current thought is, chrono testing at muzzle (3 ft.) and 20 (?) yards, accuracy testing at 20 and 40 yards.  I may see if I can come up with a 2nd chrono, so I can test velocity and 20 yard accuracy simultaneously.  But like I said, suggestions are welcome.  This is obviously not going to be a project to be done in one sitting, I expect it to take me several days, and lots of pellets, before I have all the data I'm after.  And there may not be enought difference to warrant all the time and energy.  But that's okay, it's still a great excuse to do lots of shooting, and maybe the info will be of use to someone else.  And regardless, I'll KNOW what works best for ME in MY gun.

Sorry I got so long winded, guys, I just realized the original question was "HOW much?".  Later.

Dave

I have to commend you for such a great effort. CDT and myself were talking about that exact subject of Gamo CFX barrel dimensions being a bit oversize just the other day. I had no idea that there were such pellets that were oversize. I have to say that I am learning more and more everyday from posts like yours.

By the way, last night I set up a new Catagory for Reviews. There I have put a Airgun Forum Review, Pellet Review, Scope and mount Review, Airgune Mods and Tunes. It would be fantastic if you could contibute to the Pellet Review Forum with you information about the JSB oversize pellets and your testing results.

Thanks again Dave for your efforts..

Count on it, Gene.  Won't be right away, though, I'm temporarily heavy on pellets, but light on rifle :-(.
