Sightless Gamo's - confirmed.
« on: September 08, 2006, 01:25:04 PM »
Apparently, Gamo is doing away with open sights on all their models.

I've got 2 emails confirming this from GamoUsa. The first states that all NEW models will not have any way of mounting open sights. The second says that they are discontinuing all previous models.

End result? Scopes only.

Seems kinda stupid to me - or am I nuts?

Are you absolutly sure about that Vince? If so that is so stupid. Hard to believe they would do that since there are so  many air gunners out there who like iron sites or open sights. Thats not right. They are making a mistake. If that is true then I may never buy another Gamo.

Dang!!

Same here.

Is it actually gonna happen? I don't know. Is that what they told me? Absolutely. They are no longer dealing in the "old" models, and the new ones are sightless.

As for buying any more Gamo's - well, I just don't buy guns without sights. Period.

Well I don't blame  you. Guess Gamo is going into the Scope business with package deals. They are taking the choice away from us. Guess we won't be buying any more Gamo's..

Vince,

Does that include the CFX?  I was just on GamoUSA's web site, the CFX is still shown with the same fiber optic sights.  In fact, it looks like it may be one of the few (only?) models that didn't get a plastic barrel.  Just one more thing going for the CFX :-)...

...so either I was told wrong, or the CFX will be going bye-bye. Or they just haven't updated the web info.

I am sure there are still allot of these original Gamo's at retailers but how long they will last is questionable.... I would assume with these new barrel shrouds it probably save's Gamo allot of time and money on production. They probably won't be blueing the barrels any longer. Just a hunch..:)

It’s all about sales. Since Gamo owns BSA, it tries to boost the sale of its scopes. What they don’t realize is that everyone who has rifles with open sights will buy a scope anyway, but not every one would like to put money into the sightless gun.

That's not true...

Not everyone buys a scope for their rifles. Besides, without sights the rifle becomes worthless if a) the scope breaks, or b) the mounts prove inadequate. Neither occurance is all that improbable. Seems to me that they're just opening themselves up for more warranty claims.

They also informed me that yes, the current models will last only as long as the retailers have them in stock.

Personally, I've just about had it with Gamo. Between this and their "we won't sell you parts because you're too stupid to work on your own rifle" attitude, they can pretty much kiss off as far as I'm concerned.

My Shadow currently has a Crosman spring, tophat, and seal in it. And my Quest shoots CPL's at 940 with comparable accuracy. Hmmmm.... that new Phantom is looking better all the time. I know it's a Quest with a different stock, but I could probably buy 2 of those for 1 Shadow with the mandatory scope which I don't use anyway.

Sorry, I have to rephrase: Majority of owners of guns with open sights will buy a scope anyway….. Seems we agree on the rest.
