Who else is having rodent issues?
« on: April 28, 2008, 03:34:54 PM »
I told myself this year I would be lenient with the tree rats but it's already turning sour.  It loks like my area is gonna be thick with 'em this year.
I noticed new chew marks around my deck and food and poop and (nesting material?) What a mess!
I've had all I can stands, and I can't stands no more!
I had to expire a rather odd (juvenile?) male 2 days ago at 29 yds with the B-26 and a Bearcub sleeping pill.
From a ballistics POV I was rather surprised that it entered the left shoulder quartering to me and broke
the joint.  It continued through in a straight line to rest nearly 4 inches at the right hip.
Anyway, he didn't look quite right, his head looked kind of long and narrow.  The tail fur was rather sparse and no "marbles".
Do squirrel "marbles" swell at mating time or ...?  Just to be safe I handled the services with latex gloves.

Well Troy your lil nutter may be suffering from criptinitis, a well know disease that male nutters aquire with age...:) They get all bound up and do not function any longer. and that could explain the distortion in his head. hehe  Just kidding Troy, and hope you resolve your nutter probles quickly..:)

Troy, I believe that Leonard Lee Rue had a book on North American  game animals  that mentioned that young male squirrels will "drop "their testicles to the outside of the body as they mature. The young ones have them but they are quite small until they get some age. Those old Boars with with the heavy equipment are usually a least a year old.I've also read that male squirrels will sometimes castrate young males while still in the nest but my guess is that is a myth.
