pellet rebound

I Was shooting from my 20 yard position [wife was gardening at 25], with my ShadSupreme using 7.9 crosman wadcutters against a 3/4"CD plywood backstop.

When changing targets, I noticed that some of the pellets left a plat impression rather than embedding in the wood.

Later, as I was shooting, one of them actually rebounded and hit me in the leg. It was hard enough that it could have easily gone 25 yards.

No damage... just a little sting and a LOT of surprise.

I'm glad I wear hardened glasses, and glad it didn't hit my scope.

Anyone else have this happen?

Well I do not shoot that close. If my eyes and shaking gets wors I will.... I shoot at 30 to 40 yards out mostly. What I do see is some pellets go through the paper and fiber board I use for mounting targets, then they hit the .060 spring steel plate behind and re exit the fiber board and paper.. I see the paper flying off either above, below or on the side of the target.. Guess the are bouncing back through the fiber board. There is a trap behind the fiber board but I usually find a few pellets in front of my target stand after target shooting.

It is a safety thing. I never shoot when anyone is around just for that reason. You never know what that dang pellet will do after it hits the target board.

CD plywood is some pretty hard stuff and the glue they use in it is like iron. I use ply once in awhile also as well a other hard woods and pine. Wadcutters do bounce off ply pretty easily  and if it bounced off and still came straight back an additional 20 yards and then stung you, I'd say  it had some power behind it. Of course that wouldn't happen that often with domed or pointed pellets but is does say something about the use of pellets and especially Wadcutters pellets and the need for an effective back stop or trap when using them.
