I have always liked the look of the adjustable cheek rests. So I decided to try and put on my CFX stock. I did the following
- mill top of existing CFX stock flat
- mill one side of 1 1/8" dowel to have a simlar sided flat
I really used a table saw and a clamp to hold the dowel and prevent it from twisting. The clamp was flat against the fence for the cut.
- drill two 1/2" holes (3rd hole was a mistake) thought both the dowel and stock at the same time.
I drilled one hole then put the riser in the hole while I drilled the other hole to assure that they lined us when I was done.
- glue 1/2" wood dowel half deep in the 2 holes in the 1 1/8" dowel (fill the mistake hole completely)
- sand the dowels to the level of the big dowel surface.
- glue 1/2" OD stainless steel tube into the big dowel
I let it dry sitting in the holes in the stock to assure proper alignment
- cut a slit (3/32" wide) between the holes in the stock and about 3/4 to 1 inch past each end.
I put a 3/16" hole at the outer ends of the slit to relieve stress when clamping on the risers
- drill a cross hole to allow bolt and thumb wheel to clamp between two holes in stock
- counter sink for head of bolt
- counter sink for face of thumb wheel (to prevent side load on bolt and snapping bolt)
- assemble as seen below.
- adjust as needed WITHOUT needing any tools.
- enjoy shooting with a perfect weld each and every time.
pieces after first being milled and drilled. Note the big opening to the inner air space. I am not sure what to do about this? any ideas?

Test fitting (note the mistake hole)...easily filled in later...

Finished and test fired. It is AWESOME. this is an AMAZING improvement. Well worth the 2 hours and $5.....really worth much more!!!
