Chrony-ism
« on: May 08, 2008, 02:57:03 PM »
A startled call comes from the den   . . . "Tommy! What are you doing in there?  Are you shooting inside the house?  Stop it now and go out to the garage.  I mean it. . . "   (Almost like a wake up call from "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty")

Anyway, here's what I was doing with my new F1 Chrony until about 5 minutes ago.  Doubt this lighting is optimal, but I just had to play with it a bit.  Will have to recheck when the air is light outside.  Took these pictures after I stopped shooting the .177 P3

Here are the reading for my 5-shot strings:

Cros Prem Heavy: 364.5, 362.0, 365.0, 365.6, 369.8
10.50
Gamo Rockets:  352.9, 353.8, 350.6, 342.1, 353.9
9.07 gr
Beeman Match:  377.9, 380.5, 379.3, 380.7, 379.0
8.09 gr
RWS Hobby:  453.6, 451.8, 446.9, 450.5, 452.1
6.9 gr

So I think I have this right -- presuming the Chrony is accurate -- And I have my Excel spreadsheet worked out.
The Beeman Match is the most consistent in velocity (at least on this 5-shot string) with the lowest standard deviation in velocity.  The Gamo Rockets were the least consistent, and lowest power in this group.
The RWS Hobby has the highest velocity and carries the most "punch" measured in FT-LBS, almost the same as the CP Heavy domes, but the CP's punch is at a lower velocity.
What geeky fun!

Hehe, good way to make a hole in the wall too:)

Ya think she'd mind if I brought of my Career 707?  I think instead of "Tommy! What are you doing in there? Are you shooting inside the house? Stop it now and go out to the garage. I mean it. . . " it would be more like, "OMG!  Did the roof just cave in??????????".

I remember a couple years ago I was working on one of my airguns in the garage and somehow got my finger pinched in something or other and couldn't get it out.  I had to tearfully go inside the house, with this part of the gun still attached to my now bloody throbbing finger, and ask my wife for help getting unstuck.  It was one of those things where your head is hanging low, you don't want to ask for help, but if you don't you swear the next step is amputation.  First thing my wife says as I come through the door calling for her,"OMG!  I knew this would happen, I knew it was just a matter of time before you shot yourself with one of those stupid 'BBGuns'!".  I was in too much pain to argue the difference between an "Adult Air Rifle" and a "BBGun", so I just asked,"Please, can you get this thing off of me?".  Thankfully the finger is still in place, still works, and the blood cleaned off of the gun (which I sold shortly thereafter).

In retrospect I think it could have been worse, but only if I had actually shot myself:)

Hey TC,

Now you will want to weigh your pellets, and try your crony with matched pellets, to see if its your pellets or your shooter !

But you better keep it in the Garage, or she'll through out those dangerous toys ! lol

Then we can start running tests shooting paperclips over the crony, and then paper airplanes. :-)

I know,....your not addicted,.....you can stop anytime you want... :)

And so here is the Excel spreadsheet w/ graph.
My tuned Panther 34 seems to shoot CP's at about 635 FPS and 12.8 FPE

J

Here's the B9 GF .20 on a front rest, grouping at 10M with 11.2 FTS  It shoots better than I do, I fear.

At 10M with rest? OK, but felt I could (should) do better. One problem is, in the afternoon, I have to shoot from sun into shade and can't get more than 10M range lay out safely with my  back yard restrictions.  I long to get on a real range and truly work out with the R9 seriously for a full day.  I think this girl will hunt. Have to order up some ram jets.

Support group -- that's my problem on the GTA -- group support and encouragement -- to buy, to tune, to shoot, to tweak, to accessorize. to continually see what others are up to, and to constantly think about that "next gun" I really want to possess . . .  Hi, my name is Tommy and I'm addicted!
