Leapers 3-9X50 Scope Mount
« on: September 12, 2006, 08:39:28 AM »
I have a Gamo Shadow 1000 that I want to mount a Leapers 3-9X50 scope on.  The gun has a lot of recoil so I want a strong 1 piece mount of the proper height.  Anyone have any experience with this combination?  I need suggestions for a good mount.

beaman 5039,

b-square"aa" mount, which I have the 4-16x56 on

Clamped tightly, they don't slip.

For the faint of heart, a "stop dimple" doesn't hurt. Color it with black magic marker.

FWIW, IMHO, YMMV, YCMNR

For a Shadow, any standard one piece mount will work but the Shadow does have allot of recoil. My suggestion would be a BKL Model 254. That is what I ended up with on my Shadow and it holds tight.. I had gone through a few mounts before I got the BKL. It is lite and very strong mount. Try it you may like it..:)

Gene, will the BKL 254 handle the large diameter lens of the 50mm scope?  I think I need a high scope mount.
  Thanks Guys.

Larry

I currently do not use a 50 mil on my shadows. Check with BKL and they should give you that information. They are really great guys over there. Here is there link:  http://www.bkltech.com/

I have a 40 mil on my Shadow .22 with a BKL and it has not moved in over 1000 pellets and that is with no mount stop. You will find that on the Model 254 and 253 that you will have to spread the mount first before you can even get it on the dove tail of the rifle. They are made that way..

The standard mount works fine.

Good Luck

Gene,

Did you say you have to spread the 253 and 254 mounts to get it to fit the Shadow1k? Uh-oh! how does a non-mechanical guy (me) accomplish such a feat?

P.S. Found a couple S1K's at Wal-mart ($124.67)today---gonna get one I think.

Thanks,

BP

I have a BKL model 260 (high mount) on my S1K, needed the high mount model due to the 50mm lens.  Only place I could find the high mount model was at http://www.airgunsofarizona.com/
That mount has held rock solid on my Shadow and provided the scope lens with plenty of room for the installation.

Well, I found the BKL-High Mount on Airguns of Arizona website.  I wanted to order one.  Evidently you can't order on the web, you have to call or Fax them.  I called them twice today and got a recording each time.  I left my phone number....  the recording said I'd get a call back.  They never called back.
I went to the BKL website thinking I could order one from them....  They don't have the 260 High Mount listed....  All I get when I phone them is a fax sound on the phone.  I tried to email them from their email link at least 6 times and all I get is a prompt that says "email failed to send".
I copied their email address and went through my outlook express and finally managed to send them a message.  I'm getting a little frustrated here.  It looks like they have a good product, but their marketing really sucks.  If I don't hear from them by tomorrow I'll start looking to buy a Beamans.

Is there some reason you aren't considering Accushot (by Leapers) mounts?  I have a BSA 2-7x32 in Accushot 2 pc. med. hi mount on a Shadow, hasn't budged in the least.  I also have a Leapers 3-12x44 AO full size mounted on a CFX with an Accushot 1 pc. high mount.  That hasn't budged in the least either.  The Leapers is a big scope, 14.5 inches long and something like 21 oz.  Both mounts are available at Pyramid Air for less than $20.  Hope this helps.

Daved, I ordered an Accushot 1 piece from Pyramid 3 days ago for my other airgun  (Fast Deer).  They're back ordered on them so I probably won't get it for 3 weeks.  I've never had or seen a gun go through scope mounts like the Shadow just did, but I'm new to this airgun sport.  I just want to end my scope mount problems.  I dunno, maybe I am overcompensating some.

Did you try Straightshooters? I have a B26-2 with a high comb and needed a heigh mount and used a  B-Square high mount and it is holding good. B-Square has great mounts but a little pricy.

Sorry to hear you haven't been able to get through to Airguns of Arizona.  You are correct,,,, they don't accept internet orders, you have to call them, but everytime I've called them it's been a very pleasant buying experience and they've always been very helpful.  Each time I called, the gentleman who took my order was actually the gunsmith, I forget his name, but  during the order he asked me questions about the gun and my intended application to make sure I was ordering the correct parts.  It was actually nice to speak to a real person for a change when buying things.  I don't know why you haven't been able to get in touch with them, I know their website lists the hours that they are available for phone orders.  I have several rifles with Accushot one piece mounts on them and the others are correct when they say that those mounts hold fast.  I never tried one on my S1K so I personally have no experience with that mounts holding power on a Shadow, but if the others say they work I guess they do.  In my case I just went with the BKL because I simply knew it would hold.  Whatever you order good luck with your setup.  Good shooting.
