scope for CF-X
« on: May 26, 2008, 03:42:14 PM »
I should receive my CF-X tomorrow. I ordered the combo but I heard the scope and mounts on the gun suck, all well I guess I'll just have to put it on the pumpmaster. lol! So in about a month or two (possibly sooner) I'm going to order a scope and mounts (most likely off of Optics Planet) I have narrowed it down to 4 scopes. The 4x32 barska air gun, 2-7x32 Barska air gun, Leapers 4x32(TS), or Leapers 3-9x32(TS).All of these scopes are A.O. and are approved for magnum springers. I will be bird, squirrel, and rabbit hunting with my rifle as well as occasional plinking. I know these are budget scopes ,but I also need it to last. For the mount I am going to buy a Leapers Accushot 1pc. med. height mount 1in. rings. Which scope do you think would be the best.

Sometimes the scopes can be pretty good and surprising. Give what you get a try. Sometimes just changing the mount will do the trick. I got a BSA 3x9 on my Whisper combo last year which was a surprise . The scope is pretty good but the one piece mount just did not clamp well. I like magnification so none of yours would be my choice. I like to look through the scope and see where I hit (or missed).

I had the full size Leapers 3-12x44 on my CFX.  When I gave it to my brother, it got a Nikko Stirling Platinum Nighteater 3-10x40 (?), decent scope but not as bright as the Leapers.  If you're looking for a bargain scope, try the CenterPoint 4-16x40 from WalMart.  You'll still need mounts, but it's a surprisingly good scope.  Eye relief vs. loading port could be an issue, but I know there are people that have been happy with  them on a CFX.   Good luck.

I agree on getting the CenterPoint. My Storm came with a 3-9X32 CenterPoint and it's great. Out of the scopes you have listed I would say the Leapers just so you have the ability to change the magnification for any situation.

Thanks for the replies and I was looking at Centerpoints but not a 3-9x32 I guess I'll have to check it out and see how much it costs. And when I say I'm on a budget I mean a tight one the larger Centerpoint scope(64.99-69.99) is to much.  John I am going to try the gamo scope because it should be comparable to a 4x32 BSA rimfire scope which I use on a Marlin model 60 22lr, but I really would like the adjustable objective. I guess I'll look farther into the leapers and the Centerpoint 3-9x32 plus the small scopes will save weight.

I bought the CFX used and did not use the original scope. I just took a peek through it--it really is not bad at all. I probalbly would need to use my glasses if I were using it. I went outside and the humidity immediately fogged it up so I came back inside. But as I said really not too bad--i looked to 35 yards and not bad. I think a one piece mount if not included would be better.

I have a CF-X .Currentlly mounted on it is a Bushy 4-12x40 AO mounted on a one piece accushot high mount. Its maybe a bit on the high end of your price range however i find you get what you pay for. Deadly accurate at 40 yards on most animals to about 15 pounds as well as very good optic clarity. 69bucks at wally world. I also have the centerpoint 4-16x40AO .Due to its length it interfered with the loading port. The 2 piece mounts that came with the CF-X would not allow a 40 mm objective.Hope this helps.

I recently got a new CFX combo.  The combo scope only lasted about a week before the innards started bouncing around!  There is a lot of vibration in a CFX and it needs a scope designed to handle such.  I got a BSA 4-12X44 and it has worked great.  Not the brightest scope but it has held up under the vibration.

Try Ebay for a Leapers 3-9x40 at $55.00 +  $8.00 shipping
The seller is the ebay part of cheaperthandirt.com and prices are the same.
Difference is really that with the eBay buy you can use Paypal.
