2240 Sights - DIY White Dots

I just got a 2240 and am having lots of fun with it. I plan on using open sights for now but was having a tough time with the stock sights since my eyesight isn't so great. I have a couple of 1911's that have white 3-dot sights and have gotten used to it so I decided to try dot the 2240's stock sights.

It was really simply and quick. I removed the front sight and the rear sight blade, took a center punch and marked all the spots. I used  the spring loaded type center punch and punched it a few times in each hole to create a good deep dimple. I then took a 1/16" drill bit and carefully opened up the dimple just a little on all sights. The front is plastic so be careful not to drill too deep. A little white paint applied with a sharp tipped object and voila - white 3-dot sights. It's alright if you get some paint outside the holes. Just finish coating theinside ofthe holes and let the paint set a few minutes, then you can scrape the excess off the surface with your fingernail.

I've got a .45ACP with the 3 dot sighting system. When I had time, I shot IPSC and Modified PPC locally and the 3 dot was the quickest for me to line up.

Good job! Guess I'm gonna have to try this when I get a chance!

I just smeared some White-Out on my front and rear sights.  But your job looks so much better.  I guess I'll have to go try your method this weekend.  It looks VERY professional!

Thanks!  Yeah, the hardest part for me was getting the center punch to stay on target.  Since these sights are small, I just eyeballed it but it may help to maybe use a vise for the front sight since it was really tough holding it and getting that spring loaded center punch to make its dimple.  If I did it over again, I would use something really sharp; like the tip of a drywall screw to get the dimple started on the front sight since the plastic is a little slick.  The rear was no problem - just lay it on a flat surface and punch away.
