Inexpensive Thread Lock (blue)
« on: June 04, 2008, 06:04:45 AM »
If you have a springer, you probably use blue thread lock.  The problem with thread lock is that the stuff I get at WallyWorld is about $5 for a little tiny tube.  The other day I was near a Harbor Freight store and found they carry thread lock for a fraction of the price I was paying.  If I remember correctly is was about $2 for a 0.2 oz bottle.  They have both red and blue versions.  I got the blue and tried it and I actually like it better than the expensive stuff.  I haven't looked at their web site, but it may be available online as well.

Nice find Fisherdude. I checked their website and they do have both Blue ( http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=96059 ) and Red ( http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=96055 ) for $2 each bottle. Thanks again, I really need to restock on these.

I don't want to put a damper on your post, but lately China has been sending thing to the U.S. that are not so good. The Heparin raw material, kids toys with lead and the date rape drug, the pet food, anddead pets???

I would try this stuff before I put it on something important, that I can't undo ! try a small nut and bolt, about the size you intend using it for, and see if you can undo it.

It may. or may not be that removable ??? I don't know, but I would try it first..

I do have harbour freight near my place and I go there from time to time to buy inexpensive shop tools.
I also did see those loctite but since I already have one which I got from wally world, I never really bought one from HF and never tried it also.
Harbour Freight also sells the brake hones that can be used for the airgun cylinders. They are also a bargain there.

Not a problem Bill! I'm the same way. I'd rather spend the money up front and do it RIGHT than have to spend double and have to do it again.

Thanks.  I found it at HF.  Never been in there before.  Dirt cheap stuff. Looked like mostly off-brand tools, probably from China.  Crowded.  Store clerks didn't know anything.  They directed me to aisle three, then aisle six, and I finally found it myself on aisle four.  Picked up a set of needle files for $3.99 (twelve of them in there).  I expect those to last about one use per file, which is good enough for what I paid.

I was very surprised to find that the HF bottle I bought was made by PACER Technology.  Good Stuff.  What a deal.
