Crosman RM 522 opinions, please.
« on: September 19, 2006, 01:41:56 PM »

Looking for some info here, and especially a comparison to the Gamo Hunter. The usual, power, accuracy, fit & finish, tuneability, and overall feel. Is this an older, discontinued model? I can't seem to find much on the Web about it. Any help would be appreciated.

I had one and would avoid it like the plague.  It may shoot fin out of the box and last quite a while, but it is made by Mendoza and there are no parts available.  Fortunately Cabela's took my defective unit back and I got an RWS.

Given whats avaiable out there today i would have to say avoid this one as well. I have a Mendoza Rifle myself a Crosman/walmart special and its definately a nice rifle much nicer after Russ Tuned it. But the guns are an older type of desigh with a felt washer in the tube designreed to givew the gun its power by "controled"(and not very well) deasiling. This system really does not work well at all my rifle befour the tune was all over the map velocity according to /Chrony reports by Russ  everything from 60-0 to 7and change and never the same number twice(the gun was factory RATED AT 825 FPS i DOUBT IT ever GOT THERE) Now it shoots a consistant 630 has a wonderful trigger(from the factory they can be very heavy) and is a real joy to shoot. It has the added avantage of being a real nice looking gun as well. But I can honestly say now I would not recommend buying a Mendoza rifle. Also Crosman has discontinued these guns and there is NO support for them) . I would go with the Gamo of your choice. The CFx is a really nice underlever and if you want wood there is the CFX Royal. The 220 and 44 are nice guns as well as is the S1k and Shadows. Personally I would recommend you stay with the older mnodel Gamos that come with Iron sights but thats my preducuce  for irons coming out. A really nice .22 caliber Gamo avaiable now is the Shadow Supreme avaiable from a couple of places for $149 + shipping($161.50) NIB.  I have one of those as well as the Plastic stocked CFX rofle. Both are really excellent guns and well worth the minumal costs involved. You DON't have to spend a months salery to get into this sport with a decent gun. Just do some shopping around. their are deals to be had out there both in NEW and USED guns as well as Factory refurb's.

Thanks, Guys,

I seem to remember you headaches, Jos.  Glad Cabela's sorted things out for you.  BTW PP, I already have a CFX, it's on its way back from Bob after a Turbo Tune right now.  But I've been without a rifle for so long I'm getting the shakes :-).  I really want to get a .22 next, and will probably get a Hunter 890S from Pyramyd Air.  Unlike you, I don't especially like iron sights, so no sights on this model isn't a drawback.  Althought I like the looks of the 440 without the muzzle brake, I can't find it anywhere in .22.  And when you factor in shipping on the Shadow Supreme, the 890 from Pyramyd comes out a little cheaper.  What I really want to do is put a gas ram in the Hunter.  But that will have to wait for awhile.  Later.

The Shadow Supreme with shipping was $161.50. How much is the 890 from Pyrmyad? Oh free shipping from Pyrmyad air any order over $150. check first how much shipping actually would be them figure out how much yopu would save with a 10% off coupon(they let you do one or the other not both) if the 10% savings is more than the shipping then use the coupon and pay the shipping yourself. Its how I got my R7 for $258 + $11 instead of $278 list price.
