First gun shadow sport? and new to the forum
« on: September 19, 2006, 02:01:04 PM »
Well im new to the forums so this is my formal hello.

Also im not really new to shooting, i do alot of long range shoots here in the area. My favorite as of now is a styre ssgp2 in 308 also Ive had a few airguns a chinese springer and a rws c225 pistol.

But im fairly new to airgunning. Ive been putting money away to buy a gun. My limit is about $175-200 So I was thinking about the shadow sport. Comes with the scope and all said and done its about 175.
I do some target shooting in my yard and need to eliminate some pests, mainly squrrels and birds. So dose anyone have anything good to say about this gun for starting off? accuracy wise and power level. I know they say it will shoot 1000fps but what the real truth is may differ.

Any help would be great as im looking to buy this up coming weekend.

Thanks guys,
                              Jason

Welcome aboard 88.

The Shadow Sport is based on the Shadow 1000, which is a very popular Gamo amongst allot of Gamo airgunners. It is rated at 1200 fps with PBO pellets, but you will find that those pellets are very lite. In real life with a 7.3 gr pellet it will shoot in the high 800's. I own three Shadows, .177 .20 .22 cal. The .20 is custom Walther target barrel. Some say the CFX may be more accurate.

You may want to look at the Shadow 1000. It does not have a shroud on the barrel as the Shadow Sport does but is the same rifle. It is $159.95 w/cheap scope at Natchez. $147.48 at Midsouth.

You won't go wrong with either of them. They both use the same power plant.

Enjoy yourself here 88. This forum is a member forum and you have equal say as so do all the other members here.

Welcome aboard, Jason!

Don't know about the Shadow Sport personally, but I've shot the previous model, the Shadow 1000, a lot.  Great gun.  I've seen a continueing review of the Sport on another forum, it's doing quite well.  If anything, it seems stronger than the old Shadow, and just as accurate.  In short, I think it would be just the ticket for what you're looking for.  One suggestion-- avoid the Gamo Raptor pellets.  Some guys have gotten good results at shorter ranges, but they are so light, it seems possible that continued use could actually damage the higher powered guns.  I've had good luck with mid weight pellets, RWS Superdomes and JSB Exacts, 8.3 & 8.4 grains.  Lots of guys like Crosman Premiers, others like the heavier Beeman FTS and Kodiaks.  Interestingly enough, Gamo guns just don't seem to do that well with Gamo pellets.  I don't anything about the new scopes and mounts.  The older ones had some okay scopes, but the mounts left something to be desired.  Like, not moving.  Anyway, hope this helps, and keep us posted on what you end up with.  BTW, look around the forum, there's tons of info right here for the browseing.

Hey thanks guys for all the fast replys. The springer ive had before was only about 600 fps on a good day. And reasonably accurate (is say 10-20 mters is abotu as much as id push it)
But im really looking forward to this gamo. ive been reading ym reviews and after i kinda get into this sport some more maybe snap up one of those airforce guns. But thats is down the road some.

I have a few tins of pellets laying around here, beeman silver jets (i think) beeman lasers and some rws superdomes. What do you think would be a decent all around one to shoot? Ill also pick up a few tins fo what you  guys recommend to shoot, when i make my order this weekend.

Thansk again

oh im in wisconsin :)

Hey 88

The pellets you use will depend on your rifle. I have 8 Gamo's and most all of them like the RWS Superdomes. Although it took me a couple hundred dollars to figuer that out..:) But if you read in the Gamo forum you will find that some Shadows like different pellets...:)

Let me give you a hint. Just because my shadows likes RWS Superdomes, it is not set in stone. I would suggest getting a sampler pack from straightshooters and go from there. It is allot cheaper that way.

Good luck
