Gamo Realtree Hunter?
« on: June 06, 2008, 05:47:58 PM »
Hello all,
I am new to air rifles but I think I have the bug now. lol...I recently purchased a Gamo Realtree hunter (.177 refurbished) from Cabela's to practice my shooting before Elk season (Kimber 8400 classic in 300 WSM). The shooting range is moving further and further away from city limits so I thought an air rifle would be good practice around the house, I live on an acre just at the edge of the city. Can anyone give me some personal history and opinions on this air rifle. Would a tune job help even if it has been refurbished? I know the trigger is pretty squirrelly and other than a few cosmetic dings it seems to shoot pretty well (dime sized groups @ 20 yds till scope vibrated forward). rifle came with a scope stop and BSA 4x32 air rifle scope and rings.

Thanks-Lobo

A tune will help any gun. I don't own this particular gun, but I have seen it, and I think I know something that can fix the trigger. Getting a GRT-III trigger from CharlieDaTuna would be the best thing to do, but if you're tight on money, I know somehting that will work for now.

If you can take a few pictures of the trigger and email them to me, I will be able to tell you if my idea will work or not. I've done it to my two Crosman's which might as well be Gamo triggers.

Lobo,a tune will do wonders for your REAL TREE GAMO,I had the opportunity to shoot one,it was one of the last of the better GAMOS,from what was explained to me,I enjoyed shooting the gun, very accurate, with a beautifull stock..............the man to see about a tune is CHARLIEDATUNA,with a turbo-tune & GRT treigger you will be fully satisfied.......GOOD LUCK!

Welcome to the forum,,,, nice to have you with us.   The realtree hunter has the same powerplant as the GAMO Shadow, 220, 440 and 890, etc.    I have an 890 and 3 Shadows and they are all great shooters with good power.  As the others have told you the rifle will definitely benefit from a tune but at the very least do yourself a favor and order a trigger from Charlie (Bob).  The trigger will transform your rifle into a new shooter   :D

As for the scope slipping (creeping).  If it's moving then the mounts aren't holding, which is a common problem.  Do yourself a favor and get yourself an Accushot one piece mount (either high or medium height, whichever you prefer) and remount the scope.  Your scope problems will be gone.  Just make sure to clean the rifle receiver, dovetail grooves and all the mounting hardware for the scope with denatured alcohol first,,,, including the mount locking screws.  Clean EVERYTHING with the denatured alcohol  !!!!!!!!   Then use blue loc-tite on the mount base screws and let it set and cure for 24 hours before shooting.  Your scope creep will be gone.

Again, welcome,,,,, I'll be looking forward to your future posts..........

Jeff

Welcome to the GTA Forums CJ,

You have found a GREAT PLACE TO BE ! As well as a wealth of GOOD information !

We are all AirGun Addicts her, and happy to meet another brother in airgun shooting !

I can't add to your question, as our three brothers have covered it very well. Jeff's advice on a new one piece accurashot scope mount, and they are inexpensive for the quality, and his perfect procedure to mount a scope, is legendary, and highly recommended ! It realy works, as does the GRT-III trigger ! The BEST TRIGGER MONEY CAN BUY !!!!!

I hope to see your posts and picts around often, and feel free to answer or ask any questions that you want. There are no dumb questions her at the GTA !
