Air Arms ProSport

Hey Ed

Ever since you put the post up about the ProSport maybe being your next springer, I have taken several looks at it. A very nice springer indeed. Are you planning on getting a .177 or .22?

I've since talked to people at a meet about, and the current wisdom is that though it is a really accurate and beautiful gun, it becomes annoying to caulk with the somewhat short underlever.

I haven't been able to find someone who kept theirs, so I may have to put it on hold until II can find one to check out.

The whole springer deal is starting to wear on me, as I was slightlyderided because I could only shoot 1 - 1 1/2" groups at 25 yards by one of the titled pro's there,

Gamo jokes abound, and while I'm not that sensitive to such things, there wasn't one there in 35 or so people there. Hell, there were only 2 springers, a TX 200 and an HR[?] 97. The weighed a ton with scope. I didn't realize how light a Gamo is. Most of the guns looked like submarines with tubes all over them and stocks that looked carved 2x6's, though very pretty. The scopes were as big as the rifles :)

However.....................

I did see a pcp called a[{Daystate] Air Wolf, which blew my socks off

Hard to tell when it fires [built in moderator with spring baffles], up to 50 fpe, electronic trigger and valves that optimizes the amount of air used for a given pellet and speed, and full electronic power settings, along with various other things.

400cc, dual regulated, [optional 500cc] "buddy bottle" is such that the balance is almost perfrct for a 8.5 lb gun. You get about 180 shots per fill [290-300 bars] at 19fpe.

Has a 10 shot magazine or single shot adapter, and is bolt operated.

An electronic lock system with key makes it unuseable when locked.

The stock is unbelievable shape and is of walnut, but I believe a synth stock is available [I hear the purest screaming]

The balance is incredible, and the ease of shooting - 1 oz click, no resistance, no recoil no hold time, is enticing.

The price is out there -- $2k, plus $500 scope, pluse small and large air tanks and hoses [assuming some used stuff] about $500-600 -- but I'm tempted.

You just show up with the gun, and maybe a very small tank to top off if it's a really long shoot, so it' not any more trouble than a springer.

I'll still keep my Shadow Supreme, though, I like it in that special way you do your first good gun.

The editor in the reply box really messed with this message, extra characters popped up in there.

Hey, Ed,

Thinking seriously about dropping $3K + on a new rifle?  Would you adopt me?  I only need $300 for my Hunter gas ram conversion, I have my own fleet so won't ask to borrow the car, and I'm (pretty) good about cleaning up after myself.  Of course, the collies take up a lot of room... :-).  Good luck on the new rifle hunt, and keep us posted.  BTW, the snooty attitude form the "pro" should tell you all you need to know.  Part of being a pro is helping newbies make the most of what they have, be it air rifle or golf clubs.  Anything else, and you're a dillatante, not a pro.  And small minded, to boot.  Later.

Dave

I don't think the "pro" meant to be condescending. Maybeit was more me being used to being top dog that allowed him to annoy me, though I'm sure he's not aware of how he came off. How ever it came to be, the final evaluation was that it may have been helpful, but it wasn't pleasant.

As for the gun, I'm thinking about it -- my wife is another matter. :) :) :)

She's into saving everything for the kids, and senseable things.I have to take a stand with my philosophy of having the need to feedmy soul sometimes.

I've wasted enough valuable time in my life on trying to economize, when I should been having fun.

Tempus is fugiting.

Some one has this as a tagline, and itshows a masterful understanding of life and the human spirit: ........"Truef knowledge often comes from wasted money," or something close to that.

I'll speak to her about it after she comes back from England :) :) :)

Yikesssssssssssssssss Ed.

What have you done..:) I am sending the adoption papers also. Hope mine get to you before Dave's do. I can come alone. he he .. Will leave the wife here..:) I am clean and tidy, can live on back porch or garage.. he he.

On a seriouse note the Daystate you are showing there is a piece of work. If I could trade in all my springers, maybe I would have a good down payment...:) Or you could lend me the money till my sister gets paid.

Daystate is almost a perfect air rifle. Hmmmm, could I justify it with my wife....:(   She says I already have 14 to many air guns...lol

Also, you should be able to enjoy what time you have left. Spend what you can afford and live you remaining time enjoying what you missed out on for all those previouse years. I am doing just that myself...:)

Hope you get it..

Gene
