Benjamin 392 ..22 comin on the brown wagon,,,
« on: September 20, 2006, 07:43:17 AM »
I purchased a Benjamin 392 0.22 With Steroid Extended Billet Tune from Mac1. I ordered it last month and it should be here this week.. woooooo peeeeee. I had them put on a Williams Pepe site. I have read allot about the Benjamin pump. Reviews I have read say it is a good shooter.

Anyone own one or have owned one in the past. Let me know what pellets the Benjy liked..

I have one that I bought 2 months ago, it is just stock but I love it.  It has such a classic look and feel, I thought pumping it would bum me out but I found that I started to enjoy the ritual of loading and pumping it up.  I have found the best luck with the Benjamin Diabolo's and Beeman Silver Stings.  Hope you enjoy it, I have - Michael

PS actually you can see mine on the photo near my name, did I tell you I love it!!

Thanks Michael

Always good to hear positive feedback. I will keep you posted on which pellets work for mine. Now I have a start.

Im suprised you dont already have a benjamin.

I Have several. All of wich have home made mod's done to them.

They all look stock but preform above normal.

Right now im working on a 397 that was badly neglected.
This 397 is the newest benjamin Ive worked on.
The valve is really easy to get at and reseal if needed.
The only thing I personally dont like is the black paint.
Its flaking and chipping off...Soooo ..It looks like this one will be my first polished brass job.

I hope you like it. I know I loved these rifles sence my grandfather tuaght me how to shoot his sheridan all those years ago.

Have fun and be safe

I have a stock 392 that is about 2 months old as well.

I enjoy shooting it and don't mind the pumping too much.  I recently decided to put a sight on it though as I am not satisfied with the groups I get at 30 yards with iron sights.   I think it has great potential and is definately something I can hunt with out at 30 yards to 40 yards.

So far I have found that mine likes Logun Predators at farther ranges and Benjamin Diabolos at less than 30 yards.

Hope you can enjoy yours too Gene.

I am biting at the bit for it to come. Like a cat on a hot tin roof.. Kinda like Dave waitin fer his CFX from Bob... I have some Benji pellets and have ordered a couple more tins. It will get a good workout. Oh, what black paint are you refering to?

How many pumps do you use BM? I understand you can pump it up to 9 or 10..

The manual states that a STOCK 392 should never be pumped up more than 8 times.

Considering you are buying a modified 392 you may be able to pump it more than that.

At stock 8 pumps it has good power according to my calculations.  Here are mine.

Great calculations. Thank you for all that info. Well 8 pumps is probably all I could muster in one sitting..:) Your pellet calculations are very nice to include..

Thank you

Gene,

If you got a Mac - 1 Steroid tune,  you will have to pump it 14 times to start with. I have a friend that had one and it was a bear to pump up. Good luck...

Hi again...,

14 pumps should be max for a steroid.

To be sure , go to the mac-1 web site and lookup an artical there called "Caring for your steroid".
That should help.

Now for the paint...
I have a 1997 benjamin 397PA that has some kind of bad , black paint on the barrel and tube.
Im going to strip it and polish it. Im not sure but I think the previous owner miht have painted it.
It was badly neglected. Left out in the rain and dropped in the sand.
So far I have managed to salvage the wood. But the valve and pump need to be resealed.

From what I understand the newer benjamins seem to be better quality.
I have never handled one newer than the '97 model I have here.

But from all the rave reviews the newer ones get. I think your should be just fine.

Well off to bed for me .
I just got off an all night shift.
some of the keys on my key board seem to be moving around on thier own.

Have fun
brad

for the post about the 392. Well I have been looking it over and I can tell it was apart. Nothing wrong, just black paint missing and the brass is showing through...:) I wonder if you could polish all the brass and spray with varathane or polyurathane? Maybe someone has done it and will post here.
