Another one bites the dust
« on: June 12, 2008, 09:25:56 AM »
The infestation continues. I have been on the lookout for Garden Bandits, this is getting to be like work. Yesterday I was going about my business when my wife calls me to the window. She points to the side of the garden; there I see what was the largest groundhog yet. I go to my position and ease the window open. Not having a clear shot I have to wait.  My wife who watching from a different angle says “Are going to wait until he eats the rest of my plants, shoot already”.

I waited until his head came into full view. I began to have second thoughts about pulling the trigger due to his size, but then I thought, “Just place the shot.”
Using a solid rest placed the crosshair on the mark, when he froze I squeezed the trigger.
He rolled over several times while I was reloading, by the time I was ready for a follow-up shot he was still. I let loose with the shot anyway not even a twitch he was done.

The shot was about 15 yards with 7.9 grn.177 CHP. I still can’t believe it. Now how am I gonna make a case for another gun?  Skip

Another outstanding hunt and example of what careful shot placement can achieve.    Good shooting buddy.  :)

You and that rifle are certainly a force to be reckoned with  :)
