Shhhhh....it is Whisper time....
« on: June 15, 2008, 05:19:45 PM »
A friend had a pigeon problem....  He had heard that I was "Taking out" pest birds....and see if I could help him....  He had used a slingshot on those pigeons...and hit them on a few occasions but they always came back and continue to make a mess.

Time to break-in the Gamo Whisper.....I had two windows in the second floor to shoot out from...and it was an upwards shot towards an overhang.  The distance was about 7 meters.  Piece of cake I thought.  Got there early in the mornig...around 8a.m...and at once spooked the pigeons as I got out of my car.  No problem I thought....I have to set up anyways....  About an hour later the pair of pigeons came back....except they landed on top of the overhang.  Those sharp-eyed vermits saw me....and were only showing their heads, necks and abit of their shoulders to me at the edge of the overhang.  I took a shot and missed and they flew off.  Took them another hour to come back....once they saw me they took off again.  Happened once more in another hour and a half....lucky I brought a newspaper to pass the time.....  At 2pm I called it quits and went home to do some chores....

I figured they'll return at nighttime to snooze there....so I went back at 8pm.  Spooked them once more....but they came back in less than 5 minutes....I barely had time to put a pellet into the Whisper.  Put the cross-hairs at his/her chest and squeezed the trigger.....the Gamo Rocket (The pellet with the copper ball at the tip) went right through it....and it fell off the overhang dead.  The second one flew off and never came back......

The first pic is of the pigeon poop that's all over the bottom of the overhang.....yikes.

The 2nd pic is of my proud Gamo Whisper with it's first kill.  My friend says there's at least 3 or 4 pairs of pigeons living there....I've only seen one pair......Maybe my Whisper will get a workout.  heh heh

Good Shootin Stanley,

Some say they make good eating !

I would set up a blind, to prevent those smart bird from seeing me. Maybe drape an old bed cover over the window with a slit in it, or sit further back from the window in the shadows, where you can still see them ?

Keep up the good shootin ! Great photo of your shooter and her prey :)

The grackles that I terminated I used them to make broth.  I was thinking of using that pigeon.....but I hear they're full of parasites, fleas and maybe even ticks.....plus it was killed in the city....so it probably eats alot of garbage.  So I didn't take a chance......I placed it in some woods....maybe some other critter will have a feast.  If I shot it in the country.....I will use it as food.

I like your idea of the sheet with a slit in it....only thing is I'll have to hang the sheet about 3 feet back of the windows....since I don't want to stick the barrel out of the window.

Hey Stan, A man that will eat a grackle shouldn't worry about where a pigeon has been feeding. Yeah they'll have mites but they probably taste just like grain fed  pigeons. Not much different than a Dove except bigger and tougher. Congratulations on breaking in that Whisper.Love your posts. Keep up the good work air gun bro.

Great shootin Stanley,,,,, great pic too  !

Most birds have parasites on them and the city pigeons diet may certainly be different than that of a "country" bird, but the city bird will taste just as good :)

I eat all the pigeons I shoot and most of them are the completely wild birds from the area and they are very good eating.

Anyway,,,, great shooting and I'm certainly looking forward to your next pigeon outing pics  :)
