QB-79...I love it.
« on: June 17, 2008, 03:55:00 AM »

Some of you might know, some might not. But, I won a QB-79 last year when I signed up for a raffle on another forum. Anyway, I wasn't all gun ho about air gunning, although it did provide more of a challenge when taking care of the local pests (chipmunks and red squirrels). That was until recently when the QB started leaking profusely from the front block. Let me tell you I was a little upset. For one I never have taken apart an air rifle before, let alone one powered by Co2. Even though I am proficient in taken apart paintball guns. So I dug into it like I knew everything there was to know about this gun. I changed the o-rings on the front block, but then I just left it on table and I began to look at the trigger assembly and began to wonder.  I took off the plate that was held by two screws on the one side of the trigger assembly and from there began to tinker with the trigger until it was to the point if I messed with it anymore I was going to do something wrong.

The trigger pull is a lot lighter now and smoother. I adjusted it so that after the short trigger pull it was like hitting a wall after you pulled it. Now I could pull the trigger and not have to worry about when pulling trigger, pulling farther than needed and interfering with the shot.

Let me tell you, this one sweet little shooter now and I love it. I am 100X happier with it now than when I first found out that I won it. It is so good now, that when I was up this morning I took care of two little pests in less than 30 seconds combined.

I just wanted to let everyone how I am pleased with my little shooter.

Sweet guns...my favorites of the QB's.

If you've worked with paintball, then in a pinch, can use paintball tank o-rings on the gas block.  Usually can find blister packes of 5 or 10 of them at K-mart...not the "right" o-rings, but they've been holding for months (and I'm hard headed enough not to change them until they need changing).

Yep...that is exactly what I did. I usually keep them around because of the Co2 tanks.

A good way to keep the seals from leaking on these guns is to put a drop of Crosman "PellgunOil" in through the hole in the tank block every so often (every time you change a 9-oz tank, for example). This definitely keeps the seals pliable as the oil is blown through the gun during shooting. In my experience, this is THE WAY to keep seals from leaking in these guns. Of course, maybe you did this but just got unlucky...

But I'm glad to hear that the QB79 is shooting well: they're a great little gun and we sell a lot of them.

Thank you for the tip. I will have to get some of it.

I was wondering if anytime soon there will be a muzzle break like the one for the QB-78 for the QB-79?

Thanks

Yes, muzzle brakes for 15mm diameter barrels are on my "to do" list. This would give a brake suitable for the QB79, QB78 Deluxe and the AR models. But first we'll be introducing some more springers to the Archer Airguns line. I'm just starting to test them right now...
