rws 48 combo
« on: June 29, 2008, 09:32:15 PM »
Hey guys decided on the 48 in .22 but have some questions. Will the combo from cobraairguns which comes with a leapers scope and mount be a good deal. Would this scope and mount hold up on this gun? Or should i order the gun alone? Im also not good at modding things which i have read in other reviews about the hole not lining up. Thanks everyone for posting in my other thread.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    KT,

I'd recommend the RWS Diana 1 pc adjustable mount. About $50.
Barrel droop seems to be a built-in design feature. Mine droops and through investigation It seems it's normal.
Know nothing about the Leapers scopes. I hear a lot of pros / cons when mounted on heavy springers.
Heres a review with a picture of the mount I'm speaking of. The mount has worked well on mine. Installed by previous owner, he said it was trouble free for years.

Congratulations on the buy. Great gun! you'll be happy.

Actually didn't ordered it yet cuz this was the last stop before doing so but thanks. Is it true that this gun is in .20 also?

Heres what i would do. I would order the 48 by itself, and order this mount from pyramyd. http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/accessory.pl?accessory_id=2297 It solves the stop pin problem, and barrel droop issues at the same time. If you order the 48 from pyramyd, you could probably save a couple dollars too, and they have that great deal on pellets. Just my 2 scents.

So far cobra has been the cheapist at about $300. And $350 with leapers and mount. Are these good deals, Some reason ther $50-70 cheaper than other sites. But thanks on the input.

No problem, i just figured that everyone complaind about scope stop hole being to shallow, and barrel droop is so bad, i just figured it be easier to buy a mount that fixes that.

Yeah, Don't buy the combo. The scope may or may not hold up, but; you will definitely need a different mount than the one that comes with the combo. The recoil is too much-even with the stop pin. I took a suggestion from somewone on this forum and bought a one peice mount and hung the stop pin just in front of the scope rail. -no problems with travel since.

Being an old man, my Model 48 was purchased in 1992.  It has no barrel droop.  It has performed without flaw for 16 years and has survived internships with two sons, one brother, and myself.  Last year, I chronographed it at 736 with a 14.3 gr.  Crossman Premier, the pellet that it has been shooting for 16 years.

I sent it to Bob for a tune and he replaced the spring with a GRT spring.  Today it is shooting at about 710 with that pellet *but* I shot a 1" ten shot string with it at 50 yards.  Yep, it is shooting 2 MOA after CDT tuned it.

That ain't bad for a sporting air rifle.  Not bad at all.

Thanks CDT, nice tune.

Hi Kawena, Tim here!  I can speak from hands on exp. ,, the Diana 48 side lever is a fine gun & VERY accurate. I do not know what type of scope combo Cobra is selling,, you say Leapers scope?? (Maybe Cobra is putting together a package of thier own???) If it is the standard RWS (Umarex) package,, I would have to say,, buy the gun only!! You can not in my opinion go wrong with a Diana 48 in any way. Besides,, the open sights on Diana guns are pretty decent,, & it is best that you run a tin or two of pellets thru your new gun before you mount a scope anyway. (Gives it a chance to "Break in & Smooth out") Alot of "bad rap" I have read latlely about Diana guns being too "dry"?? Personaly I think thats hogwash. The 34,s  48,s I have set up in the last 2 years seemed fine to me. (Of course they could benefit from a tune with proper lubes)  Get yourself a 48 if you have small to med. sized fingers to load it,LOL!!  Are you confused now?? HE HE HE!!  Tim.
