Beeman P17 Leaking Seals!
« on: June 30, 2008, 12:46:00 PM »
Anyone found a fix for this?  Please advise before I send my 1st defective one gun back.  I would much rather fix it myself.

Whenever pumped it leaks hisses the air from the middle opening above the hammer between the oring.

Thanks

Mine started leaking a bit back to where you had to shoot it within the first minute or it wouldn't do anything. I disassembled it and found that a bit of the vaseline or whatever they use to assemble it had gotten under the o-ring for the pressure chamber release. (part 2453K) on the previous post. I cleaned everything back up and used just a smidge of silicone to wet the o-ring. You will have to take the grip panel off and also drive out the barrel pins to get to this part. There are two springs under pressure under the grip panel, so watch out. It's not a real complicated pistol, but it will go boing when those springs let loose. I put mine back together and tested it by giving it a pump and letting it sit for about 45minutes. It still shot just fine. Your pistol probably just has a piece of crud under that little o-ring like mine. Good Luck.

yep...its either that or the valve stem nut on that same part 2453K. The small nut on the end of the stem loosens and causes leaking. Tighten that nut first and check the operation before tearing into it, might save yourself some trouble. That has happened to both of my P17s.

A little late, maybe.  My two P17s both shredded the original valve tip rings, part no 2454 in a previous post.  Leaks and hissing started slow and progressed to terrible over a few dozen rounds.  Wasn't crud or grease.  I replaced the rings with standard viton no. 006 rings.  So far so good.
