Big Cat + GRT III
« on: July 02, 2008, 05:05:10 AM »
Hi Everybody -

I just wanted to throw out my $0.02.  I picked up a Gamo Big Cat a couple of weeks ago and decided to bite the bullet and purchase the GRT III trigger.  If you only do one thing to your Gamo, this is it!!!  The install was easy to follow and went very smoothly.  The first shot was a bit of a surprise as to how smooth and lite the action is.  After a few shots I've gotten a good feel for the trigger and can't believe the difference it has made!!!

Regards -
shawn

Thanks for the warm welcome guys!  This is actually my second air rifle.  My folks recently found and gave me my grandfather's old Crossman model 102 that I remember him using to shoot squirrels in his backyard.  I loved that gun and thought it was lost.  Now it is in a place of honor.  Anyway, I'll stop my ramblin' now and get back to shootin' my "new" big cat!!!

Happy shootin!!

Seems like we're all on the same track,...but a good 'tune-up' will bring out the best in the BC. GRT-III trigger, foamed stock, now all that's needed is the tune!!!! Hope to turn that roar (buzz) into a stealthy 'purr'!!!! Time to call CharlieDaTuna!!!!!! tjk

Thanks LJ.  How do you like the Leapers scope and what mounts did you use?  I've been looking at the Tasco Golden Antler 3-9x40 and a Barska 4x32 AO scopes, but haven't quite made up my mind yet

I've read good things about the Barska scopes and have noticed that a lot of shooters here use them. I was actually advised to stay away from the Tascos, though. I guess they're pretty cheaply made. At least that's what I've read/heard. No personal experience with them myself though, so don't take my word as law. I'm a newbie to this yet, also.

When I first started doing research on my Kitty and what to replace the included scope with, Leapers was a name that came up a lot. As such things go I can't really tell you which would be better for you. I just don't have the experience. All I can say is that I like the Leapers scope better than the Gamo scope and the Daisy PowerLine 3-9x32 that I bought earlier. I was looking at different Leapers models for a while and I'll admit that I got the one I'm using now not only because of the name, better measurements and optics, but also because I was looking for one with a sun shade. I just dig the looks. He he he

I ended up getting a Gamo One-Piece Mount because of my experience with massive scope creep with the rings that came with the Daisy Powerline. I want my scope to be as rock solid as possible and since the Gamo One-Piece not only locks down at 4 different points, but also has the scope-stop pin built into it, I knew I just had to have it. I originally was using the Daisy rings and the bottom of the rear ring that came with the BC's original scope as a scope-stop since it already had the pin in it and the daisy rings didn't. But, I knew when I did it that it would only be temporary. It was an ugly solution and I'm going for a more s3xy look.  :D

I'm much happier with the overall look and feel of the Leapers and the One-Piece unit. I'll post pics this weekend if you'd like.

Just remember, as with all things, your mileage may vary.

As promised, pic is here: Clicky-clicky

Personally, I'm in love. The scope is crystal clear and just looks so s3xy. I love how the One-Piece Mount brought the scope closer and more in-line with the barrel. The sun shade adds that technological and modern edge that I revel in so much. At 9 power I can actually count the veins on leaves across the yard (20 to 25 yards away) from my TV chair in the front room. That's through plate glass and a door screen, folks. Nutters aint got a chance!

Muuuaaaahahahahahahah!!
