Adjustable Mounts
« on: July 02, 2008, 05:36:58 AM »
Recieved my new AM from Steve at Pamona Air today. Super nice fella, and wanted to pass along this positive experience of dealings with them. Although it was a tad on the pricey side,  it was just what I needed for my crosman. I did have to modify the factory scope-stop hole with a bigger sized drill bit, because the scope is a Beeman brand, but so far so good. After work I'll sight it in and let everyone know what I think of it. Kinda funny when you think about it,....Crosman rifle, Maccarri spring and seals, and a  Beeman scope mount. Guess the next thing is a custom MB from Gene,......when he gets to feelin' better, get well soon Bro'!!!,....a quality scope, and finally a 'chop' and 'recrown' job by Timmy and Roger!!! tjk

Hey Joe, sorry for the late follow up on the AM. I did write a preliminary thread on the scope/mount reviews so check it out. I wil say that so far, I've had zero problems with it. No scope creep/side shift to note as of yet. Seems like everyday I've shot the rifle since installing the mount, it's very close to zero. Now not being one to use a bench or pods, I can't really give you any "scientific" results, but with several variables such as temperature, barometric pressures, and cold ones consumed (LOL's), the mount appears to be the resolution to the barrel droop, scope hold prob I encountered before with the factory mount. Only problem I seem to have now is the stop pin location. I did have to bore out the stop hole in the action, but it would have been nice if the stop pin could have been designed with a few different positions for placement. For me, I'd prefer the mount to be set back further towards the rear of the action, bringing the eye-relief a bit closer. I've been thinking about boring another hole about an inch back behind the factory stop hole to achieve this, but haven't yet experimented with that idea. Then again I might need to find a scope with a longer tube/ eye-piece. Been looking at a center-point (3X9-50 AO ?!?!?) at wal-mart, but I'll need to take my stock scope with me to compare lengths. Over all, the Beeman scope mount is a solid piece of equiptment, and has provided me with a much more pleasurable shooting experience. If you've encountered the same problems with your current mount, I'd definately give this one a try. Kind of pricey for me,... but well worth the investment. tjk

Tom, I just finished putting that scope on my new gun not 2 hours ago!!!!! It's 13 inches long and the objective is 2 inches across. Almost didn't make it!! Objective was rubbing against the gun with the Gamo one piece. Thank God I had another mount in the junk drawer that was just high enough!! I am going to order the one you got, it sounds like it'll be perfect for me. I have a feeling if I leave it as is I will run into trouble and that scope is to sweet to mess up!!! But I NEEDED to shoot the new gun, it came this morning, I'm only human bro!!! That scope is clear as a bell, solid, looks mean as hell, I love it!! The only thing, and it's a little thing, is to adjust it you need an allen wrench. But that is also nice, cause it locks in well once sighted. I think you'll love it!! And thanks for the info, as usual!!

Glad to hear about your new toys! I would advise that you invest in a set of standard and metric allen/hex wrenches from Lowes/Home Depot or any hardware store, that way you can try a few different wrenches and get the best and tightest fit. I just don't care for the ones they provide with the mounts from the factory. That Beeman mount is really some "up-town" stuff. Hopefully you won't run into this, but if you have problems with the scope stop pin sliding into the action because of the solid side of the mount, carefully bore it out starting with a smaller drill bit and work your way up until the pin drops into it, or the mount kinda snaps into the reciever like mine did. But don't go to deep!!! Having someone hold a vacuum cleaner hose to suck up the shavings during drilling would be a good idea ( so they don't work their way down into the action). To reem out the hole, wrap a bit of duct-tape around the bit and put it in the drill backwards. High speed works best when boring it out,...low speed digs too, deep too fast. But you can tap the pin up into the mount as per the instructions, but to avoid 'creep' you'll really have to torque the dove-tail screws down. Just my opinion though, I'm no expert ok?? I saw a Barska 50 mm scope on that "optics site" from another thread somewhere, and might get it for my soon to be here RWS Diana 34!!!!! $94,...Mmmmm,....Ouch,..... my wallets on fire!!!!! LOL's tjk
