first jack rabbit of the summer.

got this bunny the other day. hit it in the right jaw. it didn't go down right away though. it sat their as if nothing happened to it, i thought i had missed it. viewing through the scope i saw that it was scratching its face, and that it had blood on the cheek and the mouth. it sat there without any movement for a good minute and then just fell over. the distance was  maybe 60-70 yards with the cfx22. i don't think i'd like to do it again at that distance. from now on it's gonna be 40yards and under. thank goodness it went down though.

weighted at 7lbs. 4oz.

LPC,, not shure of your name,, or where you live?? One thing Im shure of though,, you grow some big Bunnies!!LOL!! My southern Cottontails just dont get that big! The CFX certainly found its mark!  "Hoppers" are pretty easy to put down,, 40 yrds. would be better!! Nice shooting LPC,, nice pic. of your kill,,Why is the CFX not in the pic.??He He!! i live down here in the heart of california, in the sacramento valley. there is a lot of them. they always keep a good 30-50 yards distance from you . they will run and stop to see if you are a threat. if you don't do anything they'll sit and stare at you or graze. if you proceed towards them, they'll take off into the next field with cheetah-like speed. those long legs of them can hop over 4' high barbed fences. coyotes even have a hard time chasin them.

yep, these are bigger than the cotton tails, about twice the size. there are cotton tails down here but they are a whole lot more shy then these guys. as soon as i see a cotton tail and we make eye contact, he's gone in the bushes. seem's like the cottons always stay next to the edge of brushes and vegetation. i've not caught one yet but am still waiting for a good time to get one.

Good shootin:) Those Jack's alway's amaze me when I see em, those long leg's and ear's. We had em out in South Dakota but you couldn't get a shot off on em, they would hang out on protected turf:( Great pic, thank's for sharing. Ed

Thats a big bunny!  up here in the morongo basin the cottons are pretty used to people but the jacks are super skittish.
 i shot a GIGANTIC jack a few summers ago in AZ they are some goofy lookin animals.
