Adjustable mounts
« on: July 07, 2008, 03:08:24 PM »
Hey GTA Family, I wanted to pass along my opinion of the Beeman 5039 scope mount that I bought from Pamona Air. First, they are really nice folks to deal with, and I'd recommend them to everyone in the sport. Still working on the Sierra Pro setup, and things are looking alot better now with the CDT turbo-tune, GRT-III trigger, and the latest improvement,...the scope mount!! What I like most about it, is that it is a solid piece of equiptment. The windage is a 'no brainer', but adjusting the elevation is the only hassle since it involves removing the scope/mount from the action to adjust. But,......that's about it. Ever since I've been shooting this gun, the barrel 'droop' was so severe, that the elevation adjustments were max'd out. With this mount I was able to center the reticles back to center +/- a few degrees,..or minutes,....whatever, and bring my shots closer to the target with the adjustments. Later it only took a few clicks of the turrets to bring it where it needed to be. Now to eliminate that crappy front sight with a custom muzzle-break!!!!!! Dang green blur drives me insane!!!!! I did have to drill out the factory scope-stop holes with a drill, but on a $150 chinese rifle, I figured it wasn't that big a deal. After a few drill bits trials (?!?!) I got the mounts stop pin to click into the action. Clamped her down and  "voilla" we were in business! Only draw back to useing the scope stop, is that the Crosman scope (3-9X40) has a limited travel (forward/backward) with the action, and you really have to push you eye forward to bring everything into focus......Time to up-grade the scope I suppose. But it's a decent AO scope, so I'll probably mount it to my GF's Norica rifle that I've ordered for her. So if anyone's looking for an adjustable mount to use, I'd recommend this one. A tad pricey, but in my opinion, worth every cent. Solid, sturdy, and so far,..dependable!!! Happy Shooting Folks, tjk

Thomas, I knew you would like it. They are a bit fussy to get set up right but the big advantage is you can keep your scope near it's optical center and eliminate the barrel droop issue or windage issue if you have one.I use a little locktite on the set screws after I finally make all the adjustments. How's that Simmons scope working out by the way?

Hey Dave, The Simmons scope is working out really good. It's a 3-9X50 mm NAO Blazer series. My groups have started tightening up with it. 1 1/2" +/- at my usual 25 yard site.Of course you always have those occational flyers!!!  I've been thinking of getting a small one piece mount, but not sure if it will absorb the recoil as much as the rings do, and damage the scope itself. The rings are kinda flimsy looking, but haven't shifted/slid at all. I like them because they set high. I'll be glad when PA get's the muzzle-break back in stock. The Marksman looks naked without a break. Wondering how it will affect the accuracy, balance, and velocity. It's the ported one (4.5" long) that's been on back-order for a while. Thomas

Agree on the 5039. I recently got one for my Diana 46, and I must say that it's great. Like Thomas said, it's a bit fussy on the adjustments, particularly when tightening the 2 opposing adjustment locking screws, but once done, it's secure. The four-screw base holds firm on the Model 46, but I wonder how it would do on my .22 TF-89, which can move mounts like there's no tomorrow.

I use one on my RX-1,I gotta say that it is a dream,I think it's definitely one of the better mounts available,if not the best,,,,definitely worth the few extra dollars!

As a matter of fact, Joe, I got my 5039 from you guys at Cobra. Although I had to wait several weeks for it since you were out of stock, it's an excellent piece of gear, and I'm glad I have it.
