My Hunting Grounds!
« on: July 08, 2008, 12:27:28 AM »
I've posted about where I work a couple times, but no pictures as of yet. Well, Today's the day!

Last night I sort of slacked off in response to my 2 day suspension and took some pictures of the place. As you'll see, it's HEAVEN for Pidgeons, Rats & Gulls!!!

Here's a few different shots of the Drop off/Collection Point. Also know as "THE PIT"

Here's the tipping floor where the collection trucks drop all the garbage

And an inside view of THE PIT. Notice the D9 Dozer leveling a pile thats 11 feet thick! It was a slow night. Sometimes garbage gets piled up to 25-30 feet in there!

Here's one of the inside of the "Construction & Demolition Recovery Facility".
That back wall there is lined with pidgeons during the daylight hours. Every now & then a rat scurries across and scares al the birds away.

That's not even HALF of the place! There's still the Recycle MRF and the Green Waste MRF with all the wood piles and whatnot where the skunks & opossums like to hang out. I tried to get pictures, but there wasn't enough available light. I'll try on another day early so  the sun is still out.

Hey, I watched a Dirty Jobs episode about place where you worked. I am pretty sure it was out California too.

It's a great place to hunt, but not such a great place to be. Most times during the spring & summer it's Hot & Muggy and half the time if the sprayers aren't going, the smell is almost unbearable! Think HOT caca diaper!

p8ntballernwpa, yup. It was on dirty jobs. But that wasn't my jobsite. that was one in San Francisco. Same thing, same layout just different location.

Certainly looks like a "target rich environment" to me  :)
